I`am looking for a way to lower my bike. One way is to pull the forks upward through the tripleclamps. My question is this. How high above the clamps the forks can be raised and how tall can the risers safely be? What would it be 1", 2" or 3". I would like to know since if I lower the front end then I want to lower the back end to match. My bike is a 96 FE 501.
Thanks
The curse of being short legged.

Hi Bill
I recall wanting to improve my front handling to avoid washout on a particular trye i had just fitted and got it to a comfortable position, however the bike was unable to use the rear shocker to its full advantage and was poor on the rest of the track.
Having discussed it with my local dealer he recommended that the front forks should not sit above the clamps any more than 15 mm maximum as there was no way of dropping the rear shock to a useful adjustment to balance off the overall suspension (without serious work that is).
Hope this helps

Regards
Ady

Thanks Ady. Right now my forks set flush with the top of the clamps. I will check with a mech. at a dealership later on and see about lowering the right way. I don`t want to mess anything up.

I dropped mine on my SM about 12 mm it turned in not as smoothly on the pavement but did very well on the dirt section at lower speeds even better 2 -4 clicks off compression......

Basically I like the way a SM sits. It would be perfect for me. The problem is the FE has larger wheels and I don`t want to change them. Getting the bike to sit lower is my aim say 2-4" because it is a mighty long stretch for me to use the kickstarter ( to far ). Find out more tomorrow.

Right now I`am going to play it by ear. The word I heard at the shop didn`t sound to promising for what I want to do. Later on I will take the bike to a local Pro-Action shop and have them set the bike up. Then I will talk and listen and go from there.
Thanks
