I have been noticing my chain wobbling while riding on pavement. It seemed noisy and when I looked down I could see it moving from side to side. It was actually the front sprocket moving 2-3mm on the splines.

From gap to no gap.

Is this normal?

The teeth also look warn to me, and here is the rear,

time for a new set of sprockets and chain I suppose. Good thing I'm heading to NSMAN's for Thursday.

Oh dear, really?

I hope you have something at the shop for me then. I'm thinking of going up 2 teef in the rear or stock size is fine too.

SO, the side to side on the splines is "normal"?

Kelsow...you know my policy...If I don't have it.. you don't need it! :D(flightboots notwithstanding) The small amount of play on the front spline would be normal,I would suggest that your sprockets are not in line resulting in this wear pattern and gyrating chain...we shall see on thurs.

Dude!!!!! Make sure you pick up some chain lube when you get to nsman's. That sucker looks DRY!! Remember to lube after every ride and washing.

LOL. I do.

I just finished cleaning the chain when I decided to tale a better look.

Kelso,
The axial play you see is normal. Radial play is what would be cause for concern.

Also, your sprockets/chain will make it for a few more rides, IMHO. I've seen much worse.

yikes

i would change my chain & sprockets before they looked like that !

for the cost of a front sprocket compared to the cost of the spline/countershaft , i would change the front sprocket earlier .
