GoPro mounting

Just wondering where you guys mount your GoPro's when your riding, how it holds up off road with security and quality etc...
I have the chest mount but off road I only really get my fuel tank as spend a fair time standing up.
With it on the handle bar it bounces around and vibrates a fair bit, so it's not too pleasant to watch back.
I do have the sticky pad to attach to the top of my helmet, just not sure how game I am to use it though. Riding through scrub land I wouldn't like to trust it, have to do a bit of ducking and swerving of low branches, so won't fancy its chances of surviving.
So if you have any tips, advice etc that word be cool, cheers
 
I mount mine on top of my helmet. I've hit it on quite a few braches, though I do duck for big ones, but I've never had it break off. Seems to work pretty well there and the picture is pretty good as far as view, and clarity. I have seen some that mount to the side of your helmet as well but never tried it. I'd imagine that it would still hit things if your riding through dense brush.

I watched some youtube videos describing the best place to locate the camera. I concluded that the side of the helmet was best. I was wrong. It is a pain to have it on the side and the whole video is somewhat crooked (since you aren't looking straight ahead, but off to the side at a slight angle). The neat thing about it is that you can see the helmet in the shot.

If I would do it again, I would investigate top mounting.

I also looked at mounting under the top sun visor (GoPro is too large for this). Other cameras work well tucked up there.

The next camera I buy, if I do buy another in the future, will not be a GoPro. I think that the other companies are producing cameras with less awkward shapes and better video quality. The Sony cameras have built in motion steady that appears to work very well (perhaps better than post-processing... or more convenient).

Had mine under the peak/visor on my Bell moto, with the peak up it didn't get in the way and i could see if it was recording.

Also tried a chest harness, the results were pretty good once i got the angle sorted but after a low speed crash landing flat on my chest i felt like i'd been run over!
The impact had been concentrated to the point behind the GoPro (my sternum) rather than spread over my chest/stomach............belly flop landing.

A friend uses the same mount as Bushie but does sound like Darth Vador in the tighter sections!
 
I use the curved surface mount on my helmet. Fear not they are a staunch thing, twice I've nearly been yanked off the bike by low hanging trees. I also did a high speed stalefish which actually buried the camera under the sand and it survived no worries. I stuck the flat surface mount on my car for a burnout competiton, still on there!
 
Mounted on side of helmet, JMSCRTTNDN has it right, It is a pain to get it straight but when you figure it out and adjust for the tip in head and all other issues of mounting then it is perfect. I mounted on top, under visor and also on bike (what a mistake that was) The best I have found is on my left side as for some reason I don't hit anything on the left only right HA-HA.
Now that I see Bushies mounting, that will be the next if I can figure out my hands free hydration hose routing issue that it might cause. It is ingenious :)
 
Thanks for all the info guys. It seems the best place for it is on the helmet. I'm going out on the bike this weekend so I'll have a play and see how it goes. Cheers
 
I also have mine mounted on the helmet. Do a few sample video's so you don't get a video of your visor. ;)
 
The chest mount makes good video because the bars are in the frame.
Try adjusting it so it's as high as it can be and still be comfortable.
 
I cast my vote to chest mount. Seems more telling on body position when I examine it later.
 
I like the chest mount as well, in fact, some early videos I've done were with the chest mount. The bad thing (for me) about the chest mount is that you can't direct it as easily as you can with the camera on your head.
 
The trouble I've found with the chest mount though is it points down too much when I'm standing up, which happens a fair bit, so I don't get much in the video that's further out than about 10m in front of the front wheel, when sat down you get a good view of ahead though
 
Under the visor is brilliant!

Tried on top of helmet and kept getting caught on bushes and trees on tight lanes. Never have to worry when fitted under the visor.

I have to agree with kipper. I've torn three mount soff the side of my helmet on trees in the single track. Under the visor seems to work for me.
 
Does anyone who has it under their visor have any pics of how you have mounted it please?
 
Gopro most time on my chest or bushie ideas be better other wise I use this & yes it's dirty.....
heavy on battery I take spare, simple to use
takes 720, 1080, pic's, numbers of shoots , gopro,
inside sunvisor be OK but block part of ur view,

I have a fox v4 and mounted it on the front.
Took the mouth air vent out and moulded a gopro mount into it.
Awesome footage dead centre, gets handlebars in view when sitting and front guard when standing, I'll post some photos soon.
 
I have had it on the camelback harnes, by the chest strap.
When the camelback it on me, the gopro is just below my left sholder.
Good view with good adjustments,and doesent add weight to my helmet or gets caught in the trees....
