I have a 2000 FE 501 that is sticking in gear when I try to up-shift under power. 1st to 2nd is fine but all the rest do it. I have tried clutch no clutch, rev it a bit all to no avail.
I don't seem to have any trouble on the trails only when I hit an open section and nail it.Especially on the tar.
I think it is starting to get worse, I have had the bike for 12 months and it didn't do it very often when I first got it, but now it's all the time.

Anyone got any idea's?

it sounds like the two steel plates that connect to the shift lever shaft which rotate the selector drum are sticking together.

you'll have to pull clutch cover then clutch out to get to them. you should find that the edges are burred. pull them out and neaten the edges with a file.

not a bad guess mule but i think it's the central post right through the heart of the selector. i think it's come undone. pretty sure that it's one or t'other.

you can use the upgrade in the doc from later years.

regards

Taffy

Thanks Mule and Taffy, the plates were a little burred, so I cleaned them up. The central post through the selector is that the phillips head screw Taff?If it is it was tight.
Also replaced the clutch while I was at it and the basket had some grooves so I rubbed them out as well.

I will let you know how it goes .
Cheers.

yes that's what i meant so mule wins!!!!
it will have been the drum that had the grooves and rubbing them out is just going to speed up the demise of it. get a new one, get your neutral back and stop being so tight! it's money well spent.

How long does a clutch basket normally last for anyway?
