Hi all. Getting an 07 run out model here in Australia, had a DRZ400 stolen a few months ago and insurance settled this week so I put down a holding deposit today and hope to pick it up in a week or two when I get the cheque.
Any tips or tricks I should know about? I have checked out a lot of this site already and see there is a wealth of knowledge on the forums so any running in tips, or things to look at fixing/replacing straight away?
The reason I like these bikes are they dont really have much modding to be done to them if any so I cant wait to get out on the bike again, been going crazy not riding the last two months. :D

Gday
The 550 is a great bike, just from personal experience please read the warranty and follow what is required to keep it valid, if the dealer states something is not required but is written in the warranty/services make sure you get it in writing as it could get very messy if you dont, I dont know if the 07 models suffer from the main bearing failures or the leaking water pump seals so ask about those
I have found the dealers helpful and the bike is very nice, as with all bikes keep up the maintanance and you will have a blast
On another topic try to come on the Force ride next May at Wallerawang NSW and meet all the die hard Berg riders
happy riding

Location in profile

Welcome to UHE rocksak. There is a wealth of info here & a heap of great blokes ready to help. It's a good idea to put your location & model of bike in your signature/profile so when you post a question we can all see what bike its about. Location is important as ther may be a fellow berger just around the corner.

MEDOGROCKET has got it straight when it comes to warranty. Follow it to the tee & you wont have any problems.

I've just taken possession of my 07 model & found it much the same as the 06 apart from it goes faster because of the flames. I have just spent the last week pulling every wheelbearing, headstock bearing & swing arm bearings apart & re-greasing them ( as suggested by Steve at last years force ride). I suggest you do the same as they're not imported with alot of grease in there & premature failure will definately occur.

Dont overfill with oil & keep your radiator fluid at the top of the cores ( not full ).

Hopefully we'll see you at the force ride 08.

Re: Location in profile

You reccomend any particular type of grease? I was using maring grease on the DRZ and that seemed to work pretty good. I'm happy to tackle greasing the bearings but I wouldnt want to have to pull the motor apart to do anything on a new bike.

RE: Re: Location in profile

Gday again
I used a good quality marine grease also, cant think of the brand. Get yourself a spare air filter, I am currently running a Motoz Tractionator on the rear, it performs well and has hardly worn at all in the 200k's of Sunny Corner forest riding, depending on the riding you do you may wish to change the gearing as I found it just a bit on the tall side for the riding I do, I am running 15/50 at the moment for a mixture of open fire trails and single track
see ya

just got off the phone with the bike shop, they had already taken a holding deposit from another bloke for the 550 but they have a 450 available so I am going to go with that (I was looking at the 450 in the first place anyway so its not all bad unless you guys have any other recommendations on going with the 550 over the 450 as they have the 08's in store now for $1000 more).
Yeah Belray water proof grease is what I was using on the old bike but I see that there is motorcycle specific grease and wondered if it was any better

Get the 550! I have ridden both bikes and I have owned the 550 for two years now. The 450 is good but the 550 has enough power to make you smile and hoot out loud on a crappy day!

i hope you haven't ridden the 550 yet as you will be disappointed with the power of the 450, but the 450 will be miles ahead of the DRZ, the 450 is still an extremely good bike and would probably handle better than the 550 due to a little less horsepower. You will be happy whichever way you go. I ride a 550 only because I have been riding higher capacity bikes for several years and simply love the feel of power and the fact I'm a bit on the tubby side. Ring around some of the other berg dealers you may still be able to find one of the 07 550's
The belray is probably good enough
where in oz are you
cheers

Give John at Orange Husaberg a call on 0263603800 he may have one or know of one.
The 450's are good go take one for a ride!! a mate of mine races a 450 in the off road series and swears by the bergs, When I ride with him I am lucky if I can keep him in sight, it all depends on what you want and how you ride!!
either way all the bergs are great to ride.
Being in the ACT you are not that far away from the Force ride, have a look at the forum on the 08 Force ride, it is a great place for a ride, great people and great accomodation at a cheap price
best of luck with the purchase
MEDOGROCKET

I went and signed the rego papers for the 450 at lunch, after thinking about it the $1000 saved on going the 08 model can be usefull elsewhere at the moment (could spend it on the wife) and I am more than happy with the 450. As soon as I have the insurance cheque I'm going to pick it up.

Welcome aboard Rocksak,

You'll love the 450 i'm sure, and the extra grand could get you some nice bits like an Akra silencer or you could pocket the grander and tell the wife that you got a bonus trailride when you brought it - see ya at the force ride!

Azza.

well I picked up the 450 today, have an hour on the meter and the thing is a lot of fun so far. Really like the flickability of these bikes, seems to want to turn into corners on speed (not that I was going that fast, it inspired a lot more confidence that the DRZ though) and has heaps of guts!
