Hi all

I've been looking at the site for a while and like its content it wealth of information and is really helpfull. My question is does anyone have any idea how those "tubeless" tubes go inside tyres? It appears that a small inner tube is inflated to approx 100PSI to hold the bead onto the rim and the tyre to about 10-12 PSI. I have seen them advertised in the Ballards catalogue(for aussie readers)where they state that they are almost puncture proof. Is this true and are they reliable?

cheers

Pete

Do a search here , use 'Tubliss' as the search criteria to find out more. I'm very happy with mine in the front so far. Other experiences seem positive too. No problems today up Pinnibar and Zulu out of Tom Groggin.

The company that makes them is called Nuetech and they call it the TUBLiss system. I have installed plenty of them. I still prefer my Tire Balls for traction. There are too many cases of the TUBLiss system starting to leak air. Just enough to be annoying.

Thanks for that Steve and Ted, appereciate the input I'm still in two minds whether to buy some or not.

they are fairly touchy things, you certainly have to do your homework before instalation.
fwiw the front tyre i done 1st is still leaking, only slow in 2 days i probably loose 5-6 psi.
trouble is, i'm reluctant to take the front tyre off again, fearing i might damage the side walls of the tyre which could cause a greater leak.
i recon i spent 4 hrs sanding the back rim to give it a good chance to work.
low & behold it did work,i've worn out a back tyre & it hasn't leaked at all, except for stabbing a hole in the tyre which i then put a plug in.
one good thing,it makes it easy to put a plug in,doing it with the tyre still on.
certainly would be easier with newish bike where the rims are not dented or coroded.

There are a lot of threads on Thumpertalk on the Tubliss system, with a lot of people having tried it - also a lot of info on how to solve problems.

Overall, it sounds to me like a good system. I am coming up on needing a new rear tire, so I am going to be ordering both the Tubliss for my rear wheel and a Pirelli MT43. I would prefer the Dunlop 803, but I ride my bike on pavement to/from the trails, and the general consensus is that although the Dunlop 803 is much better on the trail, it would not last even just a couple of rides because of the pavement.

I have have had excellent success with the Nuetech Tubliss System. I have used Tubliss front and rear through three tire changes with no problems. I can now run 12/7 psi front/rear with little or no fear of rim pinches, although for desert and high speed riding I'll add a little more air pressure. Prior to the Tubliss I'd have to run 18/15 psi to avoid rim pinches, and even then I would still get the occasional rim pinch. I've had two puncture flats with the Tubliss system. A simple 2 minute plug repair provided a permanent repair for a knobby tire, however a very flimsy, thin-walled IRC Trials tire could not be fixed with a plug. I am currently running a Pirelli MT43 Trials tire with much better success. The MT43 has much thicker construction than the regular competition trials tires and is much more compatible with the Tubliss system, and provides probably 90% of the traction of a true trials tire and much more than any knobby under most conditions. I have found that the tires actually hold air pressure better and longer than regular tubed tires. I find that it helps to mount the Tubliss system and tire using 'Slime' as a lubricant rather than silicone spray or soapy water and I feel that this may aid in keeping everything leak-free.

the glycol in slime can eat the rims, not saying all slimes do that but mine did

weed I got soluable latex from these guys

http://www.amcsupplies.com.au/catalogue ... ath=13_214

I reckon about 20 to 25% latex/water 50 to 100 ml total should do it spoodge it in then go ride it for a while but slowly so it gets distriubuted but not flung away from the bead.
