G2 Throttle Cam - Thoughts?

I'm looking at getting a G2 Throttle cam on an 08 450 FE, but wondered if I could solicit some input.

I'm looking at the cam to help smooth out the throttle a bit as I get bounced around on the trails - it would seem the flat spot would allow the throttle to be moved accidentally w/o lurching the bike (which is what I do now).

Of course the lurching could problaby be cured by me getting my suspension set up correctly (which I plan to do) and me becoming a better rider (which I hope happens over time).

Right now I just ride around in the woods - no plans to do any sand, but maybe some desert in the not too distant future.

Also, it doesn't look like G2 makes a version that fits the husaberg, but i was going to try the KTM 4 stroke 1997 and newer version. They have a 30 day return policy so the risk is minimal, but if someone has been down this road it could save me some headache.

g2 is a good bit of kit and the ktm one will fit.

before fitting the g2 just try running a bit more slack in your throttle cable that might help with the problem your encountering, i tended to run a little bit more play in the throttle than recommended in the manual as it helped on whooped out single track through the trees with the exact problem you describe

Whooped out trails is exactly where I have the most problem with the throttle - I'll tweak it a bit this weekend and see how it turns out.

If that doesn't work for you, I'd second the recommendation for the g2. I had one on a previous bike and it gives you a more gentle response in the first part of the throttle movement so it won't be as sensitive to you accidentally moving your hand a bit when you hit a bump. They normally come with three different cams so you can choose a profile to suit the type of riding you do or even change over according to the conditions.

Funnily enough I haven't felt the need for a g2 on my '10 FE450 as the EFI seems to be programmed like that anyway - very progressive on small or gentle throttle openings then takes off like a mad thing if you give it a big handful. Pretty much the best of both worlds. Could have used a g2 on the BMW 800GS I used to have though as I had exactly the same problem you do off road, with the throttle response being so sharp it was lurching at every bump.
 
some riders have found that re-jetting makes the engine connected to your wrist and gets rid of that. I even had a bloke call me for some pads and said he was selling up and I persuaded him to try the jetting kit and he likes it that much he's keeping the bike. .....and he gets better MPG now.

Hey Taffbro if you have a kit to solve this problem (very common) then there is gona be a long line outside your door......... LOL.

Hey an Im gona need one of them for the wife too coz she aint doin wot Im thinking either.....

I have one and it works great. Be sure to purchase a newer version that has the Delrin inserts. These provide a little more resistance and reduce the play between the metal throttle tube and the bars. The early versions sold through KTM do not have them. Without them the throttle will turn way too easy and will give the impression of a quicker pull ratio. I like the #400 cam.

ok, here is my thoughts fwiw.
my opinion is ,if you can raise the gearing without making 1st gear too high for what you are doing...do that first.
the higher the gearing the more "zap" you take out of the motor.
bergs have wide ratio gearbox, 1st gear very low & top gear fairly high.
for the riding i do 16-45 was the highest i would like to go, after that of course, 1st gear was just too fast.
i also have a g2 throttle cam(400),& like it very much,but i have a 650cc machine.
are you sure you can't smooth it out with gearing first? a 450 should be easier to tame,with just a gearing change.
anything with a close ratio gearbox,like mx bikes,are harder to tame,& you are more likely to go straight to a 400 g2 throttle cam rather than gearing change.

I agree wholeheartedly with Taffy.

My 650 was way too lean, so the idle adjustment had to be jacked way up to get it to idle at all. So there it is, sucking all this air, with barely enough gas to keep running, now you crack the throttle, and it opens even wider for more air along with a healthy squirt of gas from the accelerator pump! Now it says, "AHA! GASOLINE!" (or "petrol", depending on where the bike lives) and you have about 20 instantaneous horsepower to deal with, in a violent, unpredictable response off idle.

After jetting, it purrs along like my little honda of yore, until I open the throttle, then the beast awakens, but in a smooth, predictable, wonderfully useable manner.
