Morning all, just joined, located in Yorks, England & apart from anything else, can't work out how to show location etc on posts!

I am just about to buy my first FX470. I have a question, does anyone know whether I'd be able to fit a starter motor from an E model to the FX which is kick only?

Is the mounting there already on the casings or are motors totally different. The FX I have in my sights is an '02 model, thanks in advance...

welcome sp1v!

i hope i have this right but the FX has the wiring loom for just such a thing. it would be so much easier if someone was taking the gear OFF their FE and you could buy the lot.

i think if you spent the money on e keihin and setting the bike up with the right upgrades you might not miss that electric start. but whatever happens you'll need to upgrade several parts as you go (no panic - just when you can afford it).

regards

Taffy

Cheers Taffy...

my only concern is probably a bit sad but that is that I've never had a left hand kicker before and was worried I'd not get the hang of it, told you it was sad...

Hi sp1v, welcome to the site, a Yorkshire man with a weakness rubbish man, telling Taffy this you will never live it down.
Yes a bit strange at first but you will get the knack.
Where abouts in Yorkshire?.

Regards

Sparks.

Cheers Sparks

I live in Harrogate between Leeds & York, originally from Newcastle, don't believe I have too many weaknesses prob me just trying to be too polite :D

Seriously though was initially bothered about the left hand thing

I find it easier to start mine with my right let stood next to the bike, I can start it actually sat astride it but but having only short legs doesn't help.

I am originally from just out side Bingley the village of Sandy Lane.

Sparks.

Welcome sp1v, no worries mate, I have an 02 fx470 which is kick only and still has the Dellorto carb on it, and it kick starts very easily. While the lefty kick does take a bit of getting used to, you will get the hang of it quickly, and find that the left kick has an advantage at times.
The 470 is a great bike, enjoy!

Cheers again Sparks, yeah I know Bingley very well, we drove through there Sunday on way to Appleyards to have a look at their second hand motox offerings....how comes yer in Javea, work? In Spain a fair bit due to work myself although not regularly only as & when, we just did the ACM auction in Valencia last year & there's a follow up sale on the way in a few months...

That's reassuring, cheers BendBerg, last motox was a XR600 and am guessing the fx may be a little easier to start...

The FX was a was a USA specific bike, are you sure it's not a FC?
Does it have a battery?
In either case don't waste your time on the E-start. Between the weak starters, slipping starter sprague and the SEM ignition it doesn't work very well.

Get the carb set up right or go with a FCR and the the bike will start with 1 or 2 kicks almost every time.

That's helpful, thanks, pretty sure it doesn't have a battery, was planning on viewing this evening. I'll double check now with the owner before I travel, thanks again
