Well where do I start...... 1st things 1st.... a big thank you to Phil at HTM Trail & Enduro for managing to source the fx 450 for me. It's a breath of fresh air actually dealing someone who believes in the product he sells.

I had originally posted a few replies to MxDave in which I had stated I was holding on to my fe 390 just in case I wasn't entirely happy with riding the fx in enduro type terrain. My goal was to try and get a bike which would be capable of being used competitively for off-road enduro, cross country & motocross all in that order of priority.... well the good news is I have found the bike and I’ll be selling the 390.

First ride out.... I had recently been at a Husaberg / KTM ride & test day in the South of Ireland where I was fortunate enough to be able to try out some KTM''s & Husaberg's….. one of them being the new fx450… at first I couldn’t warm to the fx for 3 reasons 1/ was the turning of the bike, 2/ was the tall 1st gear & 3/ was the more aggressive pull compared to that of the fe390 & 450….. Still this didn’t deter me from going ahead & purchasing an fx from HTM Trail & Enduro. My thought process was simple…. If I couldn’t get the bike to suit full-on enduro type riding I would use it for motocross and keep the fe390.

Minor modifications prior to 2nd ride out….. After purchasing the bike I had a few ideas about modifying the fx to be better suited for enduro type riding… 1st thing I did was to remove the steering stop nut’s & bolt’s from the steering head and replaced them with just the bolt on each side, this immediately improved the steering lock of the bike and made it near enough identical to that of the fe390 / 450. Next thing I did was to swap the 19â€Â

RE: FX 450..... Supercalafrig

I have to agree with everything you said. I love my FX. I find myself using 2nd gear exclusively. The bike will pull a long way in 2nd gear. Love this bike!!!

RE: FX 450..... commentary / feedabck

Just curious if there is any more commentary / feedback on the FX450. Mine is on order and only a couple weeks away, oddly enough the riding season is about 4months away. About 220lbs with gear on....will be installing a progressive spring right off the hop as I did with my 09' . So any pre break-in adjustments would be appreciated from those who have vested hours on the FX version.

RE: FX 450..... commentary / feedabck

I haven't made any changes other than adding protective stuff. As for the spring, I haven't changed those yet as it seems the suspension isn't broke in yet. Will be changing it out before the season starts. I'm 232lbs without gear.

RE: FX 450..... commentary / feedabck

Fitted a fan unit to the bike..... Although I didn't get out myself (due to catching man flu !) Philip from HTM Trail & Enduro experienced some over heating on his new FX at a cross country race on new years day... so I thought it might be a good idea to fit the fan unit to the bike for future events / outings. Philip managed to get someone to tig weld the sensor into the bottom of the right hand radiator (as per the FE390, 450 & 570's) I've opted to fit an "On/Off" switch to the handlebars.... (no access to a tig welder + it can be easily removed if required).

As I intend to compete with the FX in enduro events, the another modification I'll be doing is to wire up the front & rear lights to an "On/Off" switch which I'll mount on to the right hand side of the handle bars... (again I'll do this in such a way that will allow me to remove the same for competing in some motocross events throughout 2010)

I'll be fitting the 76nm shock spring as I feel the rear end is a little under sprung.... (** one thing to note ** I've been told the uprated FE springs that I purchased for the front forks on my 390 are not compatible with the fx fork set-up) but as the front forks on the FX feel great I've no notion of changing the front spring rate....
