Hi all, took my carb (FCR 39) off to change the jets as a couple were wrong.

Adjusted the float as found this was wrong too and set it to 9mm??

Put it all back together and now have fuel in the intake boot so adjusted the float back to see if that sorted it but still filled up! Could anyone shed some light on what's happened here please as I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to carbs. Thought I'd give it a go but appears i bit off more than I could chew!

just blow down the fuel line with a 1 foot piece of pipe (don't suck!!!)
tilt the carb so that the floats everso, everso gently close the fuel valve off and you can't blow through anymore.

keep the carb at the same angle and handle like it is Nitroglycerene and very carefully measure to the peak in the middle of the float with an engineers ruler.

that is one wot is marked from the end unlike wot is a school ruler wot starts at zero 6mm in from the end.

another check
fuel hanging up and connected to the carb. see if the fuel valve stops the fuel 100% because the early Mk1s leaked around the outside of the fuel valve between the Fv and the body of the carb.

Finally, it is impotant to remember, that when a carb has been bone dry and you turn on the fuel for the first time, both keihin and dell orto like to suffer from "incontenentia buttika" - if you have to ask about that one - your under 55!

they usually settle once you start them up for the first time.

Hi HarryJae,

Sounds like the needle is not closing against the seat properly. Think you should go back to that to reset and check it over. Check the little neoprene seal on the needle isn't damaged too.

Hopefully not too much petrol has gone down into the motor as you don't want that oil diluted. Have a look at the level in your glass.
