I have recently purchased a 2006 model FE 550e and was wondering if anybody uses any additives in there fuel for upper cylinder lube.

If so what type and quantity for a full tank of fuel?

It has 3400 kms on the clock (72.5hrs) and has run 98 octane fuel all of its life so far with motorex engine oil according to the bloke I purchased it from.

I run about 2 cap fulls of a Castor based 2 stroke oil in the older 501 and the husky 410 but not sure if the new bike will need it as I don't want to cause problems with the engine.

Any info appreciated.

Regards Danny

Fuel add itives are not needed, although I can't see where it would hurt.

The only experience i know of with fuel additives is a close mate who ran valve guard (motorex brand i think) in his '06 KTM 525.

At a bit over 10,000km he needed a full top end rebuild. Inlet valves were worn out, the ring gap was a mile out and the bore appeared to be glazed. He doesn't hammer the bike (he's had a hip replacement) and it is over serviced more than under maintained.

All his riding is done with our group, so conditions for that bike have been no different to anyone else - his bike is the only one that ran an additive and it's the only one that has needed any work on the rings/bore. My berg is somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 and the bore is still 99%, compression perfect.

You can reach your own conclusion but he doesn't use any fuel additives anymore and no one else I know will go anywhere near them now.

Thanks guys for the replies

I think I will run without for now and see how she goes.

Regards Danny
