Hi

I recently bought a 2002 Husaberg FS 650, but I have not got the chance to ride it yet and to feel all the power :/

First I did was to adjust the valves and clean the carburator. And then I tested the spark and that was all great. The compression is very good and i think I have adjusted the decompression linkage about right.

But when I kick it over it don't seem to ignite at all. I maybe think it could be wrong jettings or a wrong adjustment, because the plug is all wet after I take it out after some rounds with the kickstarter.

Does anyone know the standard settings for the carburetor on this Dellorto Phm 40?

Also, can anyone tell me how to repair the slipping starter clutch?

i have a Taffmeisters Facebook page. go have a look at it. it has lots on why they don't start.

right now, you could have the wrong ignition timing and you can also have got the valve clearances wrong. people adjust them with the engine NOT at TDC and then they are done on the auto decomp bump.

the carbs always need rebuilding with new parts. other than the PJ being blocked it is the rest of the carb: worn atomiser, worn needle etc that wreck starting.

Taffy

Thank you for your answer!

I have seen your post on Facebook and went thru some of your videos. Your site is a brilliant way to watch and learn about husabergs :)

I have now marked the flywheel with a new mark and adjusted the valves again. I have also cleaned the carburator, disassembled everything and cleaned it in an ultrasonic cleaner, and blowed everything dry. After trying to start the bike, I can not really hear that it will start. I am kicking and kicking but i cant feel something ignite, and I know there is spark. The plug is wet when i take it out after some rounds with the kickstarter, so it gets fuel. But how would you adjust the carburator as a starting point? I'm wondering if the idle jet could be too big?

I then looked thru your videos about setting the ignition. Do I understand it right that the stator mark should be 1mm to the left from the new TDC mark? Or am i wrong here?

I really appreciate the answers I get, I didn't think it should be that much work to get the bike running... I'm starting to get a little impatient

the stator has a white line that you DIDN'T touch. nothing to do with the flywheel.

the slide needs to accept a 6mm drill bit underneath it - JUST.

you may be getting too much fuel but you can't blame the PJ.

pull it behind a car!

No, I didn't do anything to the mark on the stator.

And sorry, but I did not get it what you ment with the 6mm drill bit. Do you mean a 6mm drill bit underneath the slide in the carburator?

In the manual it says you need to have the engine at TDC and then make the mark on the stator align with the right mark on the flywheel. But in the video you said something that the stator mark should be around 1 mm to the left from the center of the bolt, or am I all wrong?

yes between 0.5-1.0mm to the left of centre.
yes a 6mm drill bit under the slide

I have had good experiences with a handlebar mounted choke cable to aid starting on the Dellorto carbs..I think Taffy sells a kit.
