I own a fs570 and I'm pretty happy about the stock wp suspension.
But the the springs in the fork/shock from the factory are made for 75/85kg with gear I only weigh about 72kg including gear and I always used the "comfort" setting even on trackdays because the other (standart/sport) feels to stiff for my weight.
Are there springs available that are just rated -10kg so it comes to 65/75 :?:
I ask this because it wouldn't hurt to get my suspension serviced (never done and almost 2 years/10k of riding) and for the "small" extra amount of cash+-200€ for front+reaer spring my suspension could be better for me perhaps :?:
Maybe I should contact a wp spring specialist

Or not...
The book says small differences in weight can be compensated by adjusting spring preload.
But I can't do this myself anyway because you have to dis assemble the schock  and I would have no idea how to get it correctly setup
for the forks the manual doesn't even mention preload ??? are these the things you can turn wtih your hands on top of the forks sorry for being such a suspension noob

For the rear you can adjust preload by turning the spring collar.

Put the bike on a stand and remove the two bolts holding the shock. It literally takes 2 minutes, tops. Pull the shock out and turn the collar to loosen the preload. You should measure your rear sag first, so you know your progress, before taking of the shock. I'd start with 2 turns on the collar. You do not want the spring to be lose in the collar. It should be preloaded by a min of 2-3mm. The spring is a std WP/KTM spring. Stock rating should be 80. You can go down to a 76, 74, 72, all are common to ktm bikes and are $30 in the used mkt.

The front is only preloaded internally via spacers. The FS uses shorter springs than the FE, so you can't just find a set of those. You'll need to get a set of lighter springs that are your same length.

My FE was very stiff and took a long time to break in the suspension. I had my compression clickers on the forks all the way out.

I think I still have approx 8 clicks left on the forks to have less preload so might try that first before getting new springs
I have measured static sag and have 25mm wit current settings wich is maximum according to the manual (20-25).
I still have to measure dynamic but I have to find somebody else to help...
Looks like if I keep the current settings that I can't realy get less preload because It would go over 25 static but I'l try anyway :)

the stock spring should be preloaded 11mm

Rensho with 2 turns you mean 2 complete rotations of the collar?
grtz

I'm still learning suspension, so take that with a grain of salt.

If you have the 2011 bike, you should have the CC forks, which means no external preload. The knob up top is compression, and it controls how the fork will move down through its stroke. If you still have clicks, use them and see if the bike gets any softer and how much brake dive that contributes. You're right that the FS feels stiff, as it should, since it is a SM bike. My buddy that has one, is ~210lbs dressed to ride, and his impression is the bike is stiff.

The rear, the static sag is really just a measure of how much preload you have cranked down. You're right that 25mm is a good range to be in. The number you really want is the race sag (fully dressed and sitting/standing in the attack position). For our FE570, we want around 115mm sag, but I'm sure for SM, you'll want a lot less. My guess is 80-95mm depending on SM use. Have you looked on supermotojunkie.com?

The rear spring is super easy to change out. There is no doubt you can do it. Once you get your sag #s, and if you need a new spring, just shop around for a used ktm/wp spring. The are coded 80-250. 80 is spring rating and 250 is length in mm. Some of the KTMs run a progressive spring coded PDSx (x=1-20). Progressive is another can of worms, so I will stop there. Here in the states, a new WP spring is $120, and $30-40 used in new condition.

I have 85mm dynamic sag wich is perfect according to the manual (80-90) (is the distance difference between unloaded with rear wheel lifted pf the ground and sitting on the bike with all gear on wheels on the ground. )
I will try to get a few mm less preload and change the settings from comfort>normal and measure again :)
My bike is a 2010 model didn't know the 11 had different forks the adjusters on top click on mine.
I also have no idea if my forks are in 14 or 16mm mode in the triples will check soon
