I bought a 2011 fs 570 supermoto about a month ago and have been researching MX wheels so i can ride in the dirt. I seam to be encountering all kinds off potential problems, like the front brake rotor will rub on the spokes of a 21" wheel. Or the spacers on a cush drive hub are different than a non cush drive and so on and so forth. My question is has anyone actually converted their wheels ? please help.

I have but I have a 2005 fs 650e. My front caliper does'nt hit the spokes because I made a spacer for the front disc. it offsets the wheel a little.I used a wheel from a 2001 yz250(21"). what I must caution you on is the supermoto front brakes is overkill, it's very easy to lock-up the front end with these brakes on dirt. the rear tire for me was a direct swap from a 2001 KTM sx125. not sure if your bike is different but I'm sure someone on here will shime-in with the anwer your looking for

Easiest way is to just get a dirt set of forks, brake and front wheel, rear wheel - makes it an easy 45 minute conversion that way and you still have your street part. I worked a KTM SMR for a few years that way and it was the best. Get yourself a dirt rear shock and the you have a complete dirt bike & street bike - and it only takes an extra 5 minutes to slap a shock in while doing the rear wheel.

Cheers
Chris

O.K. so will any modern KTM forks fit in my triple clamps? ive seen some good deals on ebay. If i get the right forks the brake and wheels are a slam dunk.

Hi guys, sorry to resurrect the old thread but I thought I would see if I could get some more insight here instead of starting a new one.

I have a FS570 2011, I am looking at getting 21" and 18" dirt wheels. I have read about spokes hitting the caliper on the 21" wheel and have read about different sized axles in the front as well.

I have a yz426 and I pulled the 21" front off of it and put it on the Berg to start getting a better idea of what it was going to take to be able to do wheel swaps for trail rides vs my commute. The Axle on the yz was much smaller than on my Berg but with the spacers in there everything seemed to be lining up. The caliper even had clearance on the spokes, though not a lot of clearance.

Looking for anyone that has done the FS to Dirt conversion that might have some insight and could maybe answer questions as I try to get this done.
Also if anyone has a used set of dirt wheels (KTM 03 sx or exc to my understanding should work) that they would like to part with I would be interested.

For clarification I am hoping to be able to swap a 21" on the front and use the existing brakes, forks etc. Rear doesn't appear to have any issues with swapping, though it would be from cush drive to not, maybe a spacer issue?

Help me! :p

Thanks in advance guys

I've given up on it and ride difficult trails on my 17" sticky street tires. 15psi front and rear gives me amazing traction. You get more wheel spin with a knobby at times going up very steep hills. (not kidding)
Lots of mud and it's a different story though. No bueno...

A steel ring spacer btween the rotor and hub. Or individual shims.

Then machine a bigger spacer for rotor side, and a smaller one for right side.

Then bigger shims btween the caliper and bracket to move the caliper further away.

File the edge of the caliper a bit and that will help too.

Adjust the spokes to move the wheel to the right a little. FS has an offset front already anyway.

Like I said, I've given up for now. As far as I've got was to put the 21" front on and have it hit spokes. It was able to pass by the spokes, but rubbed anodizing off the caliper. Pretty certain if you do all of the above it will work.

May be able to get clearance without farting around with axle and rotor spacers and shims.

You've a different caliper than me so might be less or more of a clearance issue.

FS has a shorter swinger in the >08 maybe yours too. Might have to locate the axle as far back as possible.

Please post up how it turns out.

Sorry to bring this thread back to live, but I wonder if anyone was ever able to use 21" trims on an fs 570?

In the affirmative case, please post pictures of the front caliper, explain us how!

Thanks!

I gave up on it last year.
Currently I have bought a used set of forks and brake assembly.
I have yet to be able to go together with it yet but hopefully it will happen soon.

I decided it came down to two options for me.

1) buy used forks and brakes and do some rebuilding and go together with it. -I was told that I will also need speed sensors
2) get some of those Continental Twinduro TKC80 Dual Sport Tires

second option is a lot cheaper but I want to be able to convert back and forth

Hey I'm toying with this idea currently! I "might" have a spare KTM 2000/2001 SX125 where I could snatch 21/19 wheels from.

Biggest problem would be the front brakes as my current setup is 310mm Beringer cast rotor and 4 piston radial Magura caliper. Technically it would work if I took the KTM front forks along with small brakes and put them on my Berg? My current forks are 48mm and I guess the KTM forks are 43mm, so I would turn down some spacers on lathe and put the KTM forks on my Berg triples and it should be close to perfect fit? Won't need any front wheel spacers as I'm now using everything from the KTM, and rear wheel is 20mm axle so it won't need any modifications to fit on Berg.

Not looking for any professional riding, just a bit of fun in the winter because I can't stand to look the bike sitting in garage doing nothing for 4-6 months!!!!

Tkc 80 tyres are now available in 120/70/17 front size they are pretty expensive compared to other "dirtbike size tyres" but good option If you do'nt want to buy another set of wheels 8)

Psst, a tip - Shinko 244 dual-sport tires are pretty good they say, and available in 17". And super cheap, at least in the US - around $25-$60 per tire depending on size. The DR-Z people like to put them on supermotos when they go trailriding.

Edit - here's a pic of a Yamaha WR250X with Shinko 244's:

Those look like the perfect gravel cruiser tires to me ...

And ... since you're up north, consider getting studded knobs :) They are awesome fun ... Even "small" 1-2mm car studs work wonders. These Norwegian guys sell studded TKC-80s in supermoto sizes - you can also have them done in a local tire shop: http://www.snellingen.no/ ... but I do know that Snellingen make very good tires, prepare them well, have thought about the stud patterns, use good glue etc..

Here's a Husky supermoto w/ studded TKC-80s:

... 2 studs per knob. I had 1 stud per knob in my Trelleborg tires, that was fine too.

I wonder how the sidegrip on the front is with those tkc80's on 17's
I had a set of mitas e 90 on my berg 17 wheels but the front wheel was actualy a 120 rear tyre mounted.... (couldn't find any front knobby tyres tkc80 did not exist in that size yet).
I crashed a lot just because of loosing te front end in very muddy trails.... traction of rear tyre was great though in the mud.
