fs 550 of fs 650

Hello
want to buy a supermoto aside my fe 450 off road.
For some time i was interested in the aprilia sxv bikes but for several reasons (reliability, having a berg already and know something about them, great bike

) i would choose husaberg. But what type ?
Maybe the 650 is to much power for smooth riding and the 550 engine is more vivid ? no lightwheel, starter etc.
Purpose ?: riding track days on rather small circuits (croix, ecurie etc) instead long circuits.

Intensive servicing in no problem because this is also hobby besides riding the bike.

the 550 crank/rod is 250gm heavier than the 628

the 550 piston is 28gm heavier than the 100mm elko in the 628

but how they behave in supermoto use I do not know.

although probably true bushie I wouldn't consider any of what you have said to make a 550 a poorer bike to choose.

the 550 has to be worked a little harder but It's as quick as the 650.

why husaberg developed the 650 fs engine from 644 cc tot 628 cc for the 2007-08 version and what are the advantages ?
Maybe smaller piston with the same stroke, reliability and so on ...
Who has experience with both of them ?

Same piston diameter and shorter stroke.

lighter piston on the 628 than the 644 but same bore,

like taffy said the 550s have to be worked harder, more crank deflection from higher revs and their heavier crank with smaller crankpin makes them harder on the skf roller mains. at least here anyway. in the north hemisphere with all the water going down sinks the other way a 550 might last longer

the "barrel" is 20mm shorter on the 550 and this lowers the COG, shorter stroke engine has more rev range so there are good things about it.

the 628 engine has a lighter crank and piston than the 550 so it is wrong perhaps to think that the bigger engine won't rev up as quick, the 628 rod is heavier, its probaly better to say it just stops reving sooner.
