Best advice I can give is buy a new one & put it in ! Sorry man couldn't help myself. I installed a new one in my FE550 & it still leaks slightly. The collar that sits over the output shaft sometimes gets a slight groove in it so when you install a new seal it still leaks. I'm going to pull mine apart soon & reverse the collar so the worn part where the seals been sitting is inside the crankcase & the new seal should run on a clean surface.
Please feel free to let me know if I'm talking $hit & this cant be done. I only considered it after installing my new seal & haven't tried it yet so it's only a thought.
To avoid scorring the seal, try putting tape or glad wrap or even cut the little finger off a latex glove and put over the output shaft before trying to install, then use plenty of loooobe!
