Hello i would like to know from which year is this engine. Because it looks like the old one but im surprised because it has e start!. The owner says its from 2003 but ive been watching engines from that year and it doesnt look like this. Im wondering if it is the first engine with e start ?

E-start Bergs go all the way back to late 1995.

Ok i though it started in 2000. Anyway someone now from which year this engine could be ? I just saw the spare manual of the 2003 engine and its totally diferent than this.

two things jump to mind;

the waterproof is on the head so finding out when that stopped will give you the newest it will be.

and isn't there a engine number on it somewhere?

pretty sure that is going to be a 98 or 99 or 2000? my 97 has e-start. i know earliers one had it but not sure how early......it seems to be a different starter than i have, my starter attaches to a braket and the braket is bolted to the engine and all earlier ones were like this, this starter obvioulsy bolts right to the block without the braket....i am not sure what year they switched to having the starter behind the liner by where the oil filter is the engine in the photo but it was 2001 or 2003 or something so i am sure its not that........you could also check to see what the startor side of the engine looks like that could help too.....is it a little black round cover? or is the stator cover aluminum with a peep hole in the top?

i will place my guess at a 99 but of course thats my guess

If it has hydraulic clutch it`s an -00.
The color of the cover over the waterpump and clutch are -00 but they can have been changed.
Oilfilter came -97 and the wire clutch was on bikes up to -99
