Hello,
I’m looking for some suggestions on fork spring rates for my 2005 FE550. I’m having my forks rebuilt before the start of season and want to get the springs sorted out too, I just haven’t been happy with how the bike is handling. I’m 170lbs naked and 195 with all my gear. The manual is pretty clear that I need to go to heavier springs.
I assumed the 2005 and 2006 would have the same fork setup, but according to the owners manuals the 2006s came with heavier fork springs than the ‘05s (4.4N/mm vs 4.2). I was prepared to purchase the 4.6N/mm spring until I realized my printed manual is actually for a 2006. I was just going to go for what the manual suggests but I’m seeing 2 different numbers for very similar bikes.
So, what are the differences between 2005 and 2006 that dictate a heavier spring? And, what springs should I purchase based on my 195lb (89Kg) riding weight? Should I be looking at the 4.4N/mmm or the 4.6N/mm?
Appreciate the advice.
