Rocker-arm roller bearings and pins
This is for all '01 and '02 machines with rockers: Part# Intake: 200 281-01 and exhaust: 200 283-01. An upgrade is VITAL or continual replacement every two years of average use (as a precation). The factory modification was to increase the pin size from 7.6mm to 8.0mm for '03+ and this used a smaller needle rollers. This means that all '99 - '02 rockers can't be updated as the rocker arm holes are of course too small. They must either have (more of the same old, same old) new follower bearings fitted or a complete replacement rocker arm assembly. You can buy the complete arm or save your old tappet screw and locknut to save a little.

Rocker arms complete from the '03 fit the above models as a direct upgrade. Part#: Intake 200 330-01 and Exhaust 200 331-02. Bearings fitted by the factory look like a pin inside a hollow dowel from the side (explode the below left photo to see it more clearly), for repeated procedure by mechanics etc the view is of a simple pin with punch marks etc to keep the pins from drifting during use (explode the below right photo to see it more clearly).

For 2004, all Husaberg heads came with the smaller valves (35/30 as opposed to 37/30)and now share rocker arms with the later (see ++ below for old larger arms) model KTMs. Part#: Intake 590.36.060.144 and Exhaust 590.36.061.144. As mentioned in 'tuning', the inlet valves on all 470cc+ engines were 37mm and set wider and further from the cam. The inlet rocker arm is now shorter in reach to take this into account. The 400 had the follower problems but the rocker arm size of today's bikes is still OK for it as it ran the 35/27 head.

Follower bearings need an end float of between 0.25 - 0.30mm. This can disappear when punching the edges of the pin so be careful!

++If you find it difficult to get the earlier rocker assemblies look up the 2000 exc 525KTM parts. The ktm has the same part # as the Berg. (Flatchat)

so have i finally got this right?

another question?
what is the bearing code difference between the earlier bearing and later?

the sherco has an 8mm pin and unfortunately i have to buy the complete rocker arm unless i can find a piece of 8mm silver steel (or whatever) and the right follower bearing to suit.

regards

Taffy

The pin size went down from 8mm in the early models to 7.6mm for 03+.
Don't know about the Kato part #'s.

Try 8mm hardened dowel pins available from engineering supplies etc for a couple of bucks each.
Don't know how easy it is to get the metric stuff in your part of the world but shouldn't be too hard.
The hardened surface wears on the loaded side of the pin but the needles and outer ring don't seem to have that much wear on them, at least in my case they didn't.

Hi Taffy,

They changed the pin size for the 03 model as far as I'm aware, if you require pin and roller from 04 onwards you have to buy the complete rocker arm 70 quidish but in 03 you could buy just the roller pin and needles seperate this all so fits 04 onwards, 8 Quid, I've got some coming in the mail so I will let you know how it goes. hope this helps.

RE: Re: RE: follower bearing

Hey Taff
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but their areo only 2 sizes I know of.
00/02 = 8mm
03+ = 7.6mm
All the arms are the same for the above years except for the bearings.
In 04 the arms were changed but they still use the 7.6mm 03+ bearing.
Do you have something custom in there or did you drop your verniers?
There may be different sizes on the pre 00 bikes.

RE: Re: RE: follower bearing

7.6 or 7.8 i didn't have my glasses on. careful about what you say with regards rocker arms being the same. the BV heads had further reaching arms than SV heads. about 3mm further.

i use the larger arms for more lift with no additional wear. i think i just gave away another tuning tip....!

I received my new roller and pins today, the old pins were a press in fit, on fitting the new pins more of a tight interference fit than a press fit so a spot of mig should keep them in place OK.
32.00 UK pounds for the pair.
