Well,I put about 10 hours on the berg since
I bought it so I thought I better check the
valves. The dealer put 10-14 hours on it and
I don't know when he last adjusted it.
Both intakes were tight, less than .003",
one exhaust was right on,one was .006".
Has any one replaced the tappet cover bolts
with hex head ones? It would make sevicing
much easier. Also, unless you glue the stator
cover to the o-ring,it falls off every time you
try to put the cover on,unless you got 12 fingers.
I was hoping I could see the rollers and cam
but I guess you have to remove the cam cover
to see them. How involved is this?It looks like
the rocker shafts are bolted to the cover.

The rocker cover is pretty sraight forward, not too difficult.

Try putting a very light film of grease in the o-ring grove, it will stay on the cover then. But don't use so much that it squezes into the stator cavity!

Also, since my stator failure I have been coating my stator assy and inside the cavity with a ZEP silicon spray made for electrical motors, etc., it is keeping any foriegn material that gets into the cavity from sticking to the stator. That combined with a drain in the bottom seems to be keeping it dry and clean.

T-Jet, I replaced my rocker inspection cover bolts with hex heads. Because the face they bolt onto is slightly recessed, I put a nut on the bolt and screwed it all the way up to the head of the bolt. I also put Loctite on the nut to prevent it coming off. It makes get the covers off much easier, especially the exhaust valve cover.

On the stator cover I gave up on orings and made up a gasket instead.

If you remove the rocker cover you just need to clean it up and apply a thin film of suitable sealant before refitting and allow 24 hours to dry. I use white 3 Bond. Be careful around the oil feed to the rockers in the center of the cover. You don't want the sealant squeezing across and covering the hole. I would have thought its a bit early to be checking cam followers, is it a new bike?

It has about 24 hours total.I just like
to be ahead of the game.I did not
get any manuals with the bike.I will
never buy another bike that the dealer
has no literature on,I hate having to
ask questions that would be simple to
look up.

T-Jet,

Why don't you download the manuals? I got all the literature for my bike (2001 FE650E) from the Husaberg website.

Cheers
B

i find keeping the 0-ring in place easier if it is a new o-ring. once they stretch a bit, it's hard going. i don't use anything to hold it in place.

I also got the workshop manual and parts manual from the husaberg site. both useful at times.

Have fun
Jeff

T-jet, do search on valve adjustments. They will have a 1/8 method. My feeler gauges didn’t fit very well and I'm still trying to get my local porsc dealer to order me there p21 valve adjustment tool. (I haven’t had much luck) I've stopped using Berg's gasket and now will only use yamabond on the valve covers. As for the stator covers. I pull mine every time after I wash the bike. I do an inspection, there always water droplets under the cover. Do an inspection of the stator to make sure it's not rusted. Mine came from the dealer with rust on the tips of the stator. I now apply a very thin coat of dielectric grease on them. Good luck
