I rode for about 1 hour bike ran great, parked the bike for 1/2 hour for lunch and the bike would not start unless I used the choke. The bike would not run unless I had the choke on,I rode back to the truck with the choke on, pulled the plug and it was fouled. When I pulled the air cleaner the carb had lots of oil from the crankcase hose. What causes all this oil to fill up the air box.I was riding trails, and hills the bike never was on the ground.

I don`t own a 470 but I would guess the reed valve might be stuck. That would be my guess.

The pilot jet is probably plugged or you have an air leak. A good carb cleaning is the first order of business.

The oil accumulating in the carb to air boot is a normal Husaberg phenomenon and is probably not related to the choke problem.
Do a breather mod to keep things tidy and to avoid the hazard of your motor filling with oil in the event the bike ends up upside down.

Crankcase Venting 101

I cleaned the carb today, I found some engine oil in some of the small jets in the carb. Were is the reed valve located, what do I need to remove to check the reed valve.

You would need to remove the clutch cover to do that. Why would you want to do that? It's a four-stroke, you know... Clean the carb, wipe the inside of the intake manifold, spray some brake cleaner inside of the cylinder then kick it a few times without the plug and let it dry.

On the trail, you need to clear out the cylinder by pulling the decomp lever, WOT and 10+ kicks. Then, to restart it, you will need some VERY strong kicks sometimes. In worst situations, pulling the spark plug to wipe it clean would be necessary.

You can also look in my gallery for photos of the crankcase venting mod applied.

the oil blocked the carb so your need for the choke was because of it. your problem is the oil. why?

don't overfill. i keep mine at the base of the window and change the oil after three rides. 900cc to re-fill.

i never change the oil filter.

i only do this because i understand what's happeneing in there! that and a combination of saving a lot of money over the years to spend on other things!

Do we need to check the reed valve on these bikes? The manual says to check at 100 hours.

well, what are you going to do? another 95 hours with yer problems or have a look?

sorry but folk are only trying to help...

Start with cleaning your carb out of oil, do a breather mod. and see if that cures it first before you try anything else. Taffys right if you overfill with oil the bike will do what you describe.

When I changed the oil I put in 1 liter, the level was at the bottom of the sight glass. I noticed after riding a few miles the level was about 1/2" higher in the sight glass. Not sure what would cause the level to increase, there is not water in the oil.

When the bike is warm, and the oil is aerated, it will show anywhere from half to the top of the sight glass, when cold fill only to the bottom of the sight glass

Reed valve looks good I will put back together and do one of the breather mods. Is there one breather mod that is better then the other?

Use a good filter on the end of the hose is the main thing. Route the hose up under the tank and fix so the hose won`t rub anything. The filters you could use a K&N or find one at a auto parts store.
Hope this helps

I read some post about a "krank vent kit" from ET-performance would this be a better option.Would this kit stop the oil from leaking out if the bike was on its side.

lineaweaver does what appears to be the best one. it's not a filter-it's a valve. go look at his gallery.

only last week joeusa put up pages from the owners manual explaining the oil level thingy and as usual i'm useless at remebering which thread i saw it posted on.
