Anybody know when the oil-pump started being used? I've just bought a 97 FE600E (pickup tomorrow) and just trying to find out as much info as I can on this model before I pick it up.

The only thing I have been able to ascertain is that 96-97 was a transition year. Anyone able to shed some light on this?

As I understand it, if it has an oil pump it'll also have a paper element filter which is under the carby tucked up against the cylinder with the cover removable from the RHS behind the clutch lever as subsequent motors have had.

97 was the first year of the oil pump.

You can go to the .se site and download the owners manual and the spare parts manual parts 1 & 2 there. I'm not sure if I have it at work or not, but, I know I have a hard copy of the work shop manual for 98, and may have the electronic copy as well. I won't be back at work for a couple of weeks, pm me then with an email address and I'll send you the manuals if I have them.

Just do the basics on your new steed, change the oil frequently, keep the valves adjusted, and the air cleaners clean and you should be good to go. Keep an eye on the oil level those motors use oil, so check it frequently. Keep it filled to the bottom of the filler hole, not the level screw on the side.

Thanks for the info/advice! Can't wait!

Dale- I've been told along with the bike is a proper service manual so I think I'm sorted on that front. I'll let you know how I get on.
