FE570 too much for noob-ish rider?

Hi all!
As the title says, I wanted to get forum member's opinions on the FE570S, which I'm looking at because of the plate it comes with. Also it appears to be a completely awesome motorcycle.

First off, I had an '05 450EXC that I rode for a few years but never really got on with, problem was I waited until the last 6 months of ownership to have the suspension done correctly, and by then I wasn't riding much at all. All my riding money/time/resources was devoted to amateur roadracing, which I've done off and on for about 7 or so years. Anyhow, I'm looking to get a dirtbike/dual-sport again, and have been shopping around. I really like the new Husabergs for all the obvious reasons, but my only issue is that the power of the FE570 might be a bit like buying a BMW S1000RR for your first trackbike. If the FE450 came with a plate I wouldn't even hesitate and just get that.

It's basically between a new 450EXC, and possibly a 570. My riding plans include trails / single track at places like Hollister and Metcalf in NorCal, and whatever dual-sport rides and desert stuff I can get to. I'm 37, 6'1 225, and do have some experience with doing stupid sh*t on motorcycles, including various high-sides, off-trail unplanned excursions, etc. I guess my problem is I'm not the most confident rider in the dirt, and I'm just afraid that going straight to a 570 wont help that issue. Any and all advice is appreciated!

Hi mate,
I have a FE570 and find quite easy to ride, it does have allot of power but it delivers it so smoothly you would have to be quite ham fisted for it to get you into trouble. I have a good amount of experience and the only time it gives me trouble it when i'm tired and have cramp in my hands.
I also had a EXC 450 '05 and found it a bit of a hand full with the switch of a throttle, but the FE is night and day a better bike.
You can also buy the map switch giving you the option to switch to the "soft" map if it is a little to much, I only use it in really snotty conditions, as for the aggressive setting well its just that!! You could also use the G2 throttle cam, but I don't really see why when the switch is an easier option.

X2 on the above comments. If you're happy with the weight of the bike then the power won't be an issue. The throttle response and metering is heaps better than any carbed bike I've ever owned. Throw in the added versatility of the MAP switch and you have what must be one of the most user friendly, big 4 stroke dirt bikes on the planet.

I remember when brand new I was scared to idle my FE570 up on to my trailer when I picked it up. Had to ask the salesman to help me :roll:
I ordered mine with the Map Switch and also thought the G2 throttle cam would help me but I realised after a few rides I didn't need the G2. It's docile down low.

One thing I might have mentioned is that the particular 450EXC I'm looking at is a leftover '10, almost 2k cheaper OTD than the Husaberg. That 2k difference is a whole lot of handguards, rekluse, rad guards, new boots, etc etc etc. Just something else I'm thinking about is all

I rode an FE450 all last year. I started on the soft map, then the standard, and finally was on the aggressive. I just got a killer deal on a 570 left over and it is all smiles. On standard it is very mellow yet lofts the front anytime you want. In eastern single track it is very controllable and seems to be a smoother power band than the 450 - just more of it. Try it you'll like it.

im 48 and had the dealership plate my 2010 450 fe for dual use here in ca. added a mirror and turn signals and off I went.

I thought the 450 fe migt be to much, no freakin way!!!! its the best dirtbike ive ever owned bar none and i lmost wish i got the 570.

I dont have as much track time as you but i still rip up a ducati 848

if they wont plate a 450FE for you dont be afraid of the 570, the fuel injection and the new motor position is worth it.

the 570 is great for trail but don't race it, you'll die!

better than a 450 for a big guy and everything they've said above.

Thanks again for the input all. I was told that I can probably get an FE450 plated, it's just going to cost me some coin. I think I might have to do that. It's almost 2k more than the 450EXC OTD, but 6 months from now I wont be kicking myself too hard. The 570 is just Too Much Bike I think.

agree with you ryanb, 570 is too much, and, quite frankly, so is a 450....

oh come on guys a 450 isn't toooooo much 8) I love mine and it was "easy peasy" as Taffy would say to plate it for me.

I have the map switch cause I was nervous about the power but found out I've been riding it at the stock setting on the indoor MX track and no worries FUN. (It just SNOWED here today :cuss: )

Just get the dang bike
