This clutch is driving me nuts.

Clutch feels fine with engine off.
Clutch fades within one minute after engine starts.

I Rebuild master cylinder replaced O rings at slave cylinder.
No leaks anywhere.
I bleed it with syringe from bottom to top.

Anybody with a similar problem?
I do not know what else to try.

Apreciate any help, please e-mail me at.

Thanks...Carlos

Carlos,

A few months back I had a problem like you described after doing some work on my kick start shaft. I had the side cover off as well as the clutch basket and plates and after reassembly my clutch lever would barely disengage the plates. I pulled the slave cylinder and replaced the o-rings, bleed the fluid (I used baby oil [mineral oil w/ scent]) and it still didn't work. After pulling it off the second time and bleeding it again, this time I ran fluid through it enough to fill the resevoir 3 or four times, I put it back together and it has worked fine. I think I must not have evacuated all the air the first time and I was getting some squish when I pulled in the lever.

A few questions... Is the return spring inside the master cylinder?
There is a tiny spring that if disassembled and not noticed, might have fallen to the floor and not put back in.

Also, I bleed my system with the clutch out of the bike. I don't know a whole lot about these things and Im not sure if you have to or not but I think the clutch springs were forcing the rod against the master cylinder and only allowing me to fill the slave partially full. When I took the clutch out maybe it allowed the piston to fully extend allowing me to add a little more fluid.... I don't know??? Any how, it worked and has been fine ever since. These are just a few thoughts for the time being, Im sure someone will be by soon to help you further.

Regards,

Keith
Thanks for the reply, The spring is there.
I going to try bleeding it until overflows like you mentioned.
I hope somebody else can help, if not :wall:

you're taking in air somewhere. check the fluid level is right back at the top. don't forget you should reverse bleed the system with the correct tools etc.

probably fluid level, possibly the union near the cylinder.

regards

Taffy
