Fried the stator on my 02 501fe last October at Hockcliff enduro - bike sat in pieces ever since (been using the husky smoker instead). Finally got round to getting a sparks stator off Taffey yesterday, whacked it in this evening / started off the kicker 3 kicks with trainers on. That crescent mod & dutch clog decomp upgradeTaf did last year is really brilliant.

Anyway, starts & runs brilliantly but the cutout switch wont work / the ignition switch wont kill the engine either. Horn wont work. Front light works. Brake light permanantly on. Have to stall it to stop it.

Any ideas where to check first ??

Do you have voltage on the Red/White cable connected to the horn?
Do you have voltage on the Orange cable conneted to the Kill switch?
Is the Brown cable leading from the handlebar switch connected to the frame? (or ground carousell)
Is the brown cable from the Ignition switch connected to the frame? (or ground carousell)

The Kill switch and the Horn uses the same ground connection (brown cable) so if both fails at the same time it's probably lack of ground connection. You could try connecting a cable to the horn where the black cable is connected and connect the other end to the frame, minus pole on the battery or the ground carousell. If the Horn works with the replacement cable then you know it's the ground connection that is the problem for both the Horn and the Kill switch.

Have you somehow switched connections between the Brake light and the Rear light?
Brake light cable is Grey and Rear light is Violet. Ground is as before Brown.

Hi Nick - cheers for the comments - I'll check it out and post back.

Fried stator - replaced stator. Didn't disconnect any other wiring (other than front light - removed cowling).
