I just got a FE450, and I think I made the wrong choice.
Maybe I should have got the FE390.

I am running the bike on the tame setting and it is tiring me out too quickly.

Any suggestions on how to take a little bit out of the bike. :?

Maybe a custom map.

try 13-50 gearing , it smoothed my bike out for tight woods . I HATE the 13-52 , it feels to jerky . Also a G2 throttle cam works great ! My rekuse clutch helped tame it . I wanted a 390 , but bought the 450 ( because of a smoking deal ) I am glad I got the 450 and detuned it . My buddy rode it stock with mapping on soft and G 2 throttle cam on 400 ( smoothest pull ) and he thought his 2009 KTM 400 with pipe/jet kit had more power . , So I put a pipe on mine , change the G2 cam , and maping on race , never saw him again

You can try a G2 throttle cam. With the tame cam it'll take a lot off the bottom end pull. Don't worry it's still there you just have to twist it farther to get it.

What is it about the bike that's tiring you out - is it only that it feels like it has too much power, or are there other things like the throttle's too sensitive or the suspension/handling doesn't suit you? Also what kind of riding do you do and at what level?

I trail ride, I'm at best an average rider and not at all fit, but I can ride my FE450 all day (on the normal ignition map) and not be tired. One of the things that impressed me most was how smooth the throttle is when you're gentle with it and it only starts to pull hard when you want it to, so I actually find it very easy to ride. Of course, if you're riding fast or through really tight twisty technical stuff a lot then I can see how it might be different - I'm sure that would be more tiring for me.

I had a G2 throttle cam on my previous bike (Husky TE450) and it worked well, so I'd agree it's worth trying one if you're finding that the throttle response is too sharp.

I have come off a 200 2stroke , so I have a few issues.
I have sorted the suspension with Gold Valves.
Already have Rekluse Clutch.
Only an issue in the tight stuff.
I have problems with engine braking as well as the power issue.
I do need to smooth out my throttle technique as I still try to red it like a 2T
But I think a little off the top may help when I forget I am on a 450
Will try throttle cam & gearing, and set idle higher for coasting effect.
Thanks for everyones help

My friends thought I was crazy when I put 13/50 gearing on my FE 450 . I let them ride it stock 1st , and the loved it , then they rode 13/50 and said bike was smoother in the tight nasty stuff, loved it even more ! . You can use 1st gear now . 2 nd revs out really good in the tight stuff, can even pull 3rd in the tight stuff. The G2 throttle cam as a 30 day ride guarentee ( or it did ) . I just put mine back to stock with the G2 . Try blipping the throttle alot !! it helps controll the power.

one thing i was wondering was how you were riding it and from your comments here i'd suggest that may be half you problem.

if your trying to ride it like a 2st, reving it out, then its going to tire you out pretty quickly.

you also say you have problems with the engine braking, what do you mean? try riding one gear higher and see what effect that has, it should smooth out the engine braking and the acceleration a bit.

Those are good comments on the gearing and revs to use. If you're in too low a gear so it's revving high it will have more engine braking when you're off the throttle and the throttle response will feel more snatchy. At the least you can try looking to use a higher gear than you think you need - there's so much grunt at low revs that you may be surprised at just how high a gear you can pull most of the time without causing a problem, and it will certainly smooth things out (and often give better traction). If you find that does help, then you can decide whether you want to change the sprocket to gear it up a little.

I came from a Husky TE450 so I was already used to a 4T of the same engine size, and I'm finding that I can often run a gear higher on the FE than I would have before - maybe partly due to different gearing but mainly because the engine pulls so well from low down with lots of go and no tendency to stall or give you a wooly throttle response. So I can only imagine what a big change it is to come to the FE from a 2T...
