Does anybody know if it is possible to put a fan on a 2004 fe450. And if so who sells the part, and how easy is it to install.

You can mount the OEM fan for the 06's if you run an 06 tank and kickstart lever. You can run one of the 4 gallon BOSS tanks as well instad of the OEM tank.

Several people have fabbed computer case fans as well.

The OEM fan will go on the 04-05 as well, goes on the back of the LH side of the rad and you need to use a manual on/off switch

The one thing that you should know is that the '06 and newer radiators have the mounts for the fan already installed. In order to make the fan mount in the older ones, you must open up the fins for the mounts. I placed the fan where I wanted to mount it, marked it with a felt tip pen and used a small phillips screwdriver to gently open the holes up and then progressed to a larger one rolling it in circles until the plastic mounts would fit. The fan assembly is pretty heavy but I've had no problem since. I also mounted a thermostatic switch that LeFrog told me about with epoxy on the top of the radiator to operate the fan. it works great!

Eventually I will get your extra tank and move my CPU fans behind the radiator.

Yes, I use CPU fans (see my gallery), but in a push configuration, which means they have to be turning all the time, or else they are just there to limit airflow.

We talked about this many times but there are quite a few different ways to cool the engine down.

My recollection is that they all fit, the only change over the years has been colour and a lug for fitting athermo switch from about 06 on.

Others may be able to confirm, and there may be something in the doc, dunno.

nsman, this is interesting, I was looking at this for my bro in laws bike, does it cause any probs with the inline thermostat housing or are you suggesting that it will fit with FC hoses & no thermostat etc?

I was going to cut a piecre of 100mm pvc pipe 50mm thick (to simulate an aftermarket fan like Ballards sell) and see where it could be fit in on either LHS or RHS of the rad.

Azza.
