Hi all,

I've been thinking about slowing down a potential thief with a hidden 'kill' switch. Either a rocker switch or one of them tether kill switches. Question is, do I wire it up to the oem kill switch or to the oem start button?

Thoughts?

Long story short, find the wire that is connected to you kill switch. Not sure how familiar you are with the electronics, but the kill switch essentially grounds the ignition thereby eliminating spark.

What you need to do is put a hidden rocker switch that will connect the kill switch cable to a brown cable (ground). When it's flipped on, or the connection is closed, there will be no spark. When it is flipped off, or the connection open, there will be no change (i.e. everything still works normally).

None of this impedes the functionality of your kill switch. Doing this will prevent the bike from starting from both kick and starter motor. It will slow a thief down, or prevent unwanted mischief, but somebody can still throw one of these on a truck easily.

I attempted to do this yesterday, but I couldn't settle on a good spot to put the switch. My tank is off now so it is difficult to estimate what areas will be covered by the tank.

Another option might be the key switch from Sicass Racing. They have both a universal version and one for the 09-11 Husaberg 70 degree bikes.

2009-11 Husaberg FE Key Switch [26-205] - $49.95 : sicassracing.com

I used the universal version on mine, and it worked out pretty well. It is a 2-pole switch so one pole can be wired in parallel with the kill switch, and the other in series with the starter button. With the key turned off, the motor won't run and the starter button won't work either.

This is a cool idea. Wonder if I can accomplish this with my switch set-up... I guess I would need a two-pole.

I read the schematics and I think the wire you speak of is grey/yellow in the harness. I wasn't sure if this was best or a starter motor switch. Since a wouldbe thief might sit there running the battery flat trying to start with just a kill switch. Maybe that's a good thing?

I also couldn't think of a good hidden place to stick the switch. Someone mentioned an RFID reader but not sure how that works.

What about a push click switch in the centre top of the pointless lift handle towards the rear of the seat?

As for location, that one's up to you. As for function... well that's up to you too. I recommend getting a two-pole switch. One pole will disable the starter button, the other pole will act as a kill switch.

Again, not sure how good you are with electronics, but someone on herewill draw you a schematic if you need.

For wire colours, on my bike, the kill switch wire is black-yellow I think... ground is brown.

Note: The starter-starter circuit (lower circuit) is basically a break between the starter and the handlebar switch.

Remember anyone can push the bike away or pick it up on to a truck. Lock it up the more time consuming it is the less likely that they will steal it.
