I have following issue, recently bought Fe650 2004, but seems to have 2001 fe400 engine: code on cases is 4011172
Is it possible to build 2005+ fe650 engine basing partially on its parts?
What big parts will be needed for sure? Whole inginition setup, 80mm crank, piston, what else? I would like to return it to stock.
Thanks.

The crank cases, crank, piston, head, timing chain length and many more. If you look on this site you find edoc for parts, there you will see the differences in parts. There is one other problem even there are parts that are the same between 2001 and 2004, Husaberg changed the numbers used.

Do a search for Asbachmotors. They may be able to supply a 650 motor, maybe.

Yeah as he mentioned above, I would just look for a complete 650 engine and replace the whole thing. Since pretty much the gearbox is the same it's less work. Check out Dr.C and bushmechanic post and thread and you will get some good info for parts/mods and other solutions for hbg engine fixes

I would consider making it into a 470, these were very, very fast. you would need a 37/30 valve head and a 100mm liner.

I think you've been given poor advice by the above. t'the doc' is my work almost completely. sadly, the owner of this site has removed my name from it and all the hundreds of hours it took to compile.

470.. hmm what parts would you need if from a fe450 '08?

the old bikes ran a 60mm stroke crank to your 58mm. that is the difference in CC. hardly worth it if you're starting with a 450.

Yeah thats true but just looking for knowlegde haha. Im quit curious as im build on a cbr600rr as well. All types of engine mods for more power and torque are always of interest even if its 1 or 2 hp!

Thanks all for replies!
470 with 100mm liner seems to be great idea.
Is there a possibility to fit crank with bigger stroke to this 2001 case (more or less plug and play) and increase cc's further - or not worth it?
Which models had 37/30 head?

you can't increase the stroke any further. that is your lot. no more bore, no more stroke.

the 470/501/550 and the 650 had the 37/30 head. only the 400 didn't it had the 35/27 head.

the 470 has the 53 MX cam
the 400 has the mild 01 cam

the 470 has a 40mm dell orto
the 400 has a 38mm dell orto

the 470 has a parallel pair of header pipes
the 400 has pipes that for 30mm are 'big' and then they change to 'small' and when they are about to enter the centre exhaust section they become 'big' again.

the 470 has a CR 6th gear
every other Husaberg bar none 2001-2008 inclusive have the same 6 ratios with the exception of any FC and FX bikes (usually the 550 that had just the first 4 speeds.

I'd ocncentrate on makijng that 470 engine relaible. they are the "RAT ****" ENGINE AND NOTORIOUS FOR POOR LUBRICATION AND SEIZING.

Thanks for clarification
tbh I don't want to build super-unreliable race engine, not worth for me for amateur trail riding

I have already exhaust and Keihin FCR installed from 2004 650.

Maybe should I go only with liner, piston and leave rest alone for enduro use? Or modify my head to accept bigger valves?

change the head, they are cheap enough. you may have a BV head/ you never know.
