Hello guys:

Im looking into buying one of those problem bikes that has a lot of extras but is plagued of problems. And would like to know if anyone knows any possible causes.

The guy explained that from brand new his son went to a 5 day long enduro race and the bike sized :!:

He changed piston rings and all related things but wont start using the electric starter. If you press the switch the starter works but it cant start the bike.
If he kicks it starts though. He said the mecanic said something about the decompresor but that doesn't sound like the right thing to me.

I`ll be honest Im only interested on the bike to take all the extras it has an put them in mine but I would have to get it fix and ready to resale and would like to know what im getting myself into.

thank you guys :p

A properly jetted 05 450 should start very very easy on the e-start. In fact on my 05 450 I have never kick started it yet.

When trying to e-start it does it turn over too slowly? Is the battery fully charged ? It should be kept plugged in to an Optimate III charger at all times when not in use. My very first guess would be that the battery was never kept in good condition by letting the voltage get too low for long periods of time. I would start with a new battery (same as original) and then fully charge it with the Optimate III before installing it. If it is not brought up to a full 13.5 volts when new it may never again accept a full charge due to battery memory.

If it won't turn over fast enough with a fresh battery then the autodecompresion device would be the next thing to look at. Its possible that the spring was installed incorrectly or the valves are set too loose.

Here's a picture of the autodecompression device spring installed incorrectly which renders it useless.
