Hi all just new to this having a problem bike has spark air fuel but turns over then backfires out exhaust have tried new stator & another black box no change all ohms seem right on pick up & statorhave had head of replaced inlet valves i,m sure i,ve got the cam timing right just won,t start any ideas welcome Thanks Gazza

TDC is with the staple at 9 o clock. the leading edge should be in an imaginary line between the centre of the crank and the bottom edge of the screw hole for the cover. that is TDC.

find that, get the rocker cover off, check the cam lobes are symetrically up at 11 and 1 o clock.

also if they look nearly symetrical but not quite and moving a sprocket tooth either way doesn't help: it is because your one tooth out at the crank and intermediate gears.

tappets need setting at TDC and not 5mm more in either direction otherwise you catch the auto decomp.

you need a sixth-of-a-turn

regards

Taffy

Thanks Taffy I,ll give your way a try & see how we go I,m not new to engines but it is the first berg i,ve played with and had run out of idea,s as its just like the timming is out let you know how I go Thanks again Gazza

Hi Taffy checked cam timming as you described was all ok checked valve clearance ok swapped around stators & black box Eg; new stator old blackbox ,new stator new black box,old stator new & old blackbox no change still just turns over &over give it a gut full of fuel after a bit of turning over backfires out of pipe then back to just turning over & over again its got me beat

are you sure you didn't set the tappets on top of the auto decomp?

go back, get TDC then do the tappets

Taffy

Thanks taffy I,m sure as we marked top dead when we had the head off which my mark lines up with your way to find top dead centre I,ve been around bikes for forty years built my own race engines this is the first berg I,ve played with its got me stumped its as if the timmings out but have checked that over & over Thanks Gazza

Done all that when it first started playing up we thought then it may have a bent valve no bent valves but inlets were worn replaced them reseated all I,m thinking its electrical but i,ve just about changed everything Thanks Gazza

not really. spring tension has to be spot on. as a simple rule the decomp weight must ping up hard when doing a sit up

Not sure how the Berg is setup but I had another brand of bike VOR530 that had a similar issue, eventually found that the fly wheel magnet had spun putting out the ignition timing, it would fire sometimes but not run, thought I would mention in the hope it may help

Thanks guy,s have checked the timming & wodruff key ok i think i check the tension of the spring as seems light to me Gazza (fingers crossed)

Hi all the berg is alive the spring tension on the auto decomp fixed the problem Thanks for your help happy riding Gazza
