Hey guys
I am thinking of getting a second Berg to have as a spare. I came across 2 bikes. 2006 FE 450 (3500 miles) and 2003 FE400 (1100 miles)

the 2003 is a smoking deal!

Am I making a mistake buying the older bike? I don't think the 400 vs 450 is too much of a problem as all I do is single track but I was concerned about the years.

go and try both of them, then buy the better one, or both. mine is sort of combination of the two and is user friendlier than 450 when in lower to middle revs and is stronger in the very bottom revs. doesnt rev up so quickly in general, but this applies only to half throttle, it is similar to 450 in upper revs.

pre-2004-5-ish is when they got more reliable, different ignition and carb etc. ...

2006 all the way, better ignition, keihin carb, and I think you'll find spare parts for the 450 easier.

Is it this 2006 for $2200?

You will probably spend the difference solving issues on the 400. A rewound stator is now over 300.00 alone

Hi

It's a no brainer, go to the newer one !!!

Only the SEM stator and the Dellorto carb, will make you spend the difference in no time.

They should have made a 400 with kokusan ignition the FCR, that was the choice.

I absolutely agree with this: "They should have made a 400 with Kokusan ignition and the FCR carb, that would be the choice." They, actually, made the 380 engine kit, but one cant get it anymore (the genuine part). There is a way (I took it) to cca400 with custom sleeve and smaller piston. But for conditions in AZ, even 501, 550 sounds reasonable. This applies twice as much, since you already have 390 in the garage. So go for 450 2006.

LOL!!!!

yeh the "CHASSIS" has a complete book to itslef as well.
things like "forks done 36 times" sound so 'easy'.

you don't want for anything on it. but what I really like is the pride in ownership I get from it. I feel sorry for the riders that swop bikes every 24 Months.

regards

Taffy
