Bit of bike history first, it’s a 03 Fs650e with an FP Ti pipe and a FCR41 carb with a 175 main jet, Iv had it about a year now and its ran fine, until about a month ago at a track day at Lydd. I noticed that on hard exhilaration out of the hairpins it would stutter slightly then be ok, well now the stutter is getting worse.
If the throttle is rolled on its fine, could the pump be flooding it and sould I try it without the air filter to see if theres any change?
Iv cleaned the carb and the valves are set .

Got any ideas

drop the needle two clips. if that works, drop the MJ 5-7 (168-170) and raise the needle 1 clip again.

that should do it.

Taffy, Iv dropped the needle 2 and thats does the trick, now the question is, as Iv got a race next weekend at Llandow do I leave it as is or up the needle one. This is incase I cant get a main jet in time, being as its bank holiday today, do you know where i can get main jets from mail order cos my local shop dont keep them?
Why do you think it needs leaning out on the 1/4 throttle, could this be down to needle ware?

so i got it right hey! i haven't lost the touch!!!

first of all the needle operates at half throttle and not a 1/4. i'm not asking you to do it. it's what the bike needs.

it's likely that the season has done it. that and the cam chain gradually wearing has probably made the cam timing BETTER and means it needs leaning off. that's why it didn't do it last spring i guess.

only raise the needle 1 clip WHEN you change the MJ down.

it isn't due to wear. reason is as above.

Ah, no mention of the 10 quid minimum order :? I had to get 3 mains so got a 172, 170 & 168 that should meet my needs :)

could have got yourself a pilot air screw and cut out a MJ or how about a PJ or......

anyway, you're on your way by the sounds of it!

I heard there is an aftermarket accelerator pump diaphram thingy available for this carb which stops bogging and other problems associated with it.

There was a recent review on the Ktm and they said it was the best money spent.

Don't ask me where to get it, all I know is it is a plate which bolts on the bottom of the carb.

it's been out a few years and it's called a "P38" something-or-other. anything that reduces the APJ is good and that's what it does.

dale likes none, i like a tiny, tiny drop at the start.

you can do the same thing by doing the BK mod or on the older carbs the Taff mod.

both are described by going into 'motoman 393's memorial web page. he was a 19 year old kid that got killed about 3 years ago but had already done the best description of the BK mod on the TT site.

truly if you get the P38 you need your bonce testing....

sorry mate but it's that simple.
