I was wondering if an fcr41 would fit and work on my 02 fe501. The carb is off of an 05 Yamaha yfz450 atv. I am not sure if this would make a difference. The idle adjustment looks to be in a different location. Is the tps required to be hooked up? I am not sure if my Dellorto has a tps. I will have to check it out tomorrow. Thanks for all advice.

Some time ago I asked the same question for my 01:

Keihin adapts its carbs to the needs of the manufacturer. Often they move different little things like the hot start device.

If it fits, it should work.

I ended up having my carb "Lineaweavered" and it is now a smooth running bike, except for an aging stator (subject of another thread).

Ended up being cheaper than the Keihin conversion. Just giving you a different option.

I am considering sending my carb to Dale also but I found a good price on the fcr41 so I thought I would get some input. Do you think the modified Dellorto is just as good as the fcr41 properly set up? Anyone? All opinions welcome. I would love to hear from people who have done either.

In all honesty, no, a Dellorto can't be better than a properly installed and jetted FCR.

Just a look at both carbs side by side should give you a clue.

In my case it was: do I want to spent $1000 or $200 to sort out my fuel delivery issues on a used dirt bike? The money saved can be invested in a stator rewind, an autoclutch, a dual sport kit, a gps with ram mount, etc...

Properly jetted and modded by Dale, a Dellorto works fine.

dale has made it clear many times that he can make a dell orto as good as a keihin FCR.

What modifications do I have to do to get an 'fcr like' dell 'orto?

well i don't know what dale does 100%. i only know 99%. why don't you read up on the carburation part of the doc and see if you can't find an interesting article by joeusa.

that will 99% do it for you.

I installed a FCR from a YTZ450 Quad in my 501.
I think it is a 40 mm, not a 41 mm diameter.

The carb. has a leak jet, the husaberg/ktm version not.
Fitting a Husaberg Needle (OBDVR)was a failure

take a look at the mods in the doc.
I did the mk2 mod to reduce time from the AP to 0,7 sec.
Let the origninal Yamaha needle in, also the Leak yet.
(disactivating the leak yet means you have to much fuel-another membrane was needed)

My setting was.

45 PJ
NDSR neelde clip 4
168 MJ

armin

it will be a 39 or 40 but they are VERY difficult to measure!

we can't help you improve the jetting if all we have is the word 'failure' so feel free to tell us more.

PS it's 'grandchildren'

Taffy,

you know the old keihin story of the 501.

Let her rest in peace.

As per the manual it was a FCR 40 for the Quad.

Thanks for the correction of my bad english.

regards,
armin
