Hi guys,
I am thinking about buying my second Berg,an 02' FC 550.My question is I would like to make this bike a supermoto/street bomb but I'm not sure if the 6spd trans would be good for this set-up? Is there that much difference between the wide & close ratio transmission?

Thanks,
Kirk :?

Wide Ratio high gear is roughly 13% taller than that of the standard six speed box.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
Dale

I can get about 95 mph on my 02 FC550 with stock motor and gearing if this helps.

What I am about to say doesn't neccasarily apply to Husaberg's or supermoto, but I think it does. I know several people who like close-ratio gearboxes for fast desert races becuase the can gear taller without having to worry about gaps between gears, mostly ktm riders and mxc gearboxes. I am not neccasarily one of them but I do own a 520mxc, and was in a desert race that had a couple dry lake beds. Not wanting to overrev the motor I went from stock 14/48 to 15/45 and it flat hauled. The bike pulled this really tall gearing because 4,5,6 gears were so close together that it was always in the meat of the power. A buddy with an exc tried 15/45 but I pulled him as he could not pull his 6th, the gap between 5th and 6th bogged his motor.
After watching the Reno round of AMA supermoto, I would imagine this same scenario would be good for supermoto; in that you don't a low first, and you need quite a bit of top-speed. Put simply you can gear the FC tall enough to hit as high of speeds as an FE or higher, as long as you are willing to sacrifice having a low first gear!

Hope this helps,
Adam

Regarding post 2000 Husaberg:
Please keep in mind that gears one through five are common with sixth being altered for the WR.

To calculate each gear selections MPH / engine RPM ratio one only need to provide: Primary gear reduction, selected transmission gear reduction, final drive ratio and tire roll out.

Enjoy:

The close ratio is much better for closed course racing, there is less of an RPM drop between gears and thus easier to keep in the meat of the powerband. Treat the WR tranny as an overdrive gearbox, good for a highway/fire road cruiser.

Anyone have any idea what the minimum engine revs you would want when "just cruisin'" at the speed limit? I figure I could change down gears for "just hammerin'".

I'm trying to work out best gearing to fit to the '600 & I make it about 4650RPM doing 100km/h in top gear with 16/42 sprockets on a 17" road tyre. To me that sounds to be revving a bit high but really I've got no idea.
