hi guys i am new on here and have just got a 2002 fc470, i like it so far. i have had it a few days and now from trying to start it for over a hour it now takes me around 5 mins from cold but........ i have to lean against something or my friend has to hold the bike whilst i jump on it. is it poossible to fit an electric start to this modle ?
cheers

yes with about 250 worth of used parts.

suggest you get the following and then decide coz you can get them to kick up really easily when they are right:

sledge mod
an iridium plug
a later auto decomp lobe and spring
a dell orto spruce up kit

work carried out:
good tappets
strobe the ignition timing as per the doc (a link on the left of your screen)

preferable stuff that will help
pull the head and check for tuliped inlet valves
check the stems for doming and the tappet pads for cupping
put the best side of the rocker shafts UNDERNEATH or new (apparently no longer made?)
ALWAYS a new cam chain
try to upgrade the tensioner blade whilst you're there

that should be enough to see it starting first time every time.

set the choke cable on the bars
fit a 'torque' or OEM '08' cam.

all in the doc except i think the choke mod.

cheers taffy,

i will look into this, warm it starts 1st time every time i just cant do it sat down and if im out over moors or on a mx track i would be nackerd. my friends dad has had bergs for years now and he did mention that the auto de-compression was not working correctly.

my techneque for starting (get it to TDC, pull de-compression lever in and take it just past TDC, let go of lever, bring kick back to top and give it an almighty wak! lent against a wall haha).
