Hello everybody i'm new here,

I want to buy a husaberg supermoto for competition.
My dealer offers me a fc 550 rebuild to a supermoto.
This bike has 4 gears instead of 6 on a real husa supermoto.
Should I go for it or look at a 6 speed?

Thanks,

Husaracer

your machine is the motocross version. what they did was stick all 6 gears in the box but the selector drum has a block after the fourth gear!

this means all you need to do is buy a new selector drum. the bad news is that it also means complete disassembly of the bike engine.

the 550 is smaller in capacity due to the shorter stroke of the engine. with clever use of con rods and the correct year of crank you can infact make one helluva beast.

i can't imagine that on any SM track you use 5th or 6th but the lads here would soon put me straight i'm sure!

regards

Taffy

Not so fast there, the four speed tranny is missing ten items.

The shift drum has a drift pin inserted through it,very easy to remove.

The total cost for making her a 6 speed will be close to 600.00.

I stock all items needed.

Thats a lot off money and a lot of work.
Taffy say's you cant use 5th and 6th gear on supermoto track so who agree's whit that?

Depending on gearing and on the track. I use 2-4 on our tight track, although I am putting shorter gearing on and might end up in 5th.

On tight road race tracks, I use 3-6.

1st is quite low, so you could gear up the 4 speeder and not need 5th or 6th, but I am just a novice, so who knows. ;)

I have used 5th and 6th many times on a supermoto track.

I think it is always better to have a choice than not!

In my experience, the "better" supermoto gearbox is the close ratio 6 gear box, not the wide ratio.

Cheers,
Simon

If I was changing ratios, I would put the old 6th ratio (to make it heaps shorter) and a taller 1st gear. Then it would be a fantastic box.

If you are thinking about racing the bike then you would definately be best looking for a sm model. There are a lot of differences between the two with the gearing only being one of the major ones. Suspention in very different and costs a fair bit to get the same. It all comes down to your specific needs and the size of your wallet reallyjavascript:emoticon('')

The bike has all the original parts off a supermoto suspension wheels brakes.
The only main difference is the gearbox.
I think i will go fort it's such a nice bike

Hi, i have an FS 550 E with 6 gears and i find there are too many gears for the tracks i use to ride in, so maybe is a good option.
I use it only for racing and normally i don't use more than four gears. I like very much this engine, you don't need to go very high rev and pushes all the time but i find that six gears are a bit handicap to make things quick. Sometimes i don't know which gear i'm using.

I bought the bike drove it for a day and now its at the shop to put 6 speed gearbox in it.
On the track I used mostly 4th gear and sometimes in slow corners 3th gear.
First an second you dont even need.
What I like is the engine what a power at every rpm it rides so smoothly just the topspeed was very low.

Hey there husaracer :)

I really hate to say it but we did tell you

It's a shame you didn't let us know about putting it in the shop for the work - I have a complete 6 shift gearbox sitting in my garage. It's used but in very good condition.

Nevermind.

Enjoy the ride - it is a fantastic sm bike - you'll be having loads of fun with it :)

Cheers,
Simon

Which gearing are you using? I'm running 15/42 on a 450 and I don't have the need for fifth or sixth.
