The problem I'm having with my 2000 FC 501 is starting it, when cold it will start within 3 kicks usually, and it seems to run really well, but when it gets warm once you kill the engine, it seems to be a real pain to start again.

I have already adjusted and checked the valves clearances more than once
Replaced the cdi and stator with units from regulator rectifier.com
Cleaned and checked the carby a few times (dellroto phm 40)

So where should I be looking?
I love the bike it's an absolute weapon, when you can start it :furious:

Hi travis,

first thing would be to check your pilot screw is set correctly. Otherwise fine when cold and a ***** when hot.

Next check the jets match with the set ups recommended in the owners docs, especially the pilot jet.

While you're in the carb check the needle for wear, that's worn you need to replace it along with a new emulsion tube at the same time.

Assuming your new stator is giving the correct readings, spark plug and cap etc in good condition.

Good luck,

Carl.

I think I have it sorted, throttle needle clip was set on the first position, not the third like the workshop manual states, all jets and air fuel mixtures are stock and it now starts hot!!
