Hello I am wondering if the suspenshion is adjustable enought to ride off road 2005 model in eastern conditions and with a four speed whats the top speed, Im new to bergs and have been on ktms for years.

FC 450

It can do well but as you know it was made for moto.
The 450 will do about 75 or so in stock form and first gear is pretty low so that will work fine. The 450 has a smoother power delivery than say a CRF 450 so that will help as well.
The Bergs keep/ hold very good traction for a Moto oriented bike so all is well in that area.
This leaves the shocks to be revalved in the front for sure and if you are lucky the back might just work out ok.
It will work just fine for all but experts so go for it.
Good Luck!

RE: FC 450

you can modify the gearbox to be a 6-speed again. although boss has said that there are several bits you need to buy i reckon that it can be done for peanuts or free even. the springs tend to be soft for fast riding so if you are 175 fatty pounds plus then the springs will be right and that just leaves the valving. we have a really long thread in the suspension section on setting up forks for enduro in which we do all the internals ourselves. however - it's not for the faint hearted!

how about letting us know how you get on please?

WXC

I have a couple friends who use the FC 450 in the trees, and ours are almost if not as tight as eastern stuff, but with more elevation changes. Motor works excellent, and ride it to see if the trans is too tall in 1st or short in 4th, both of my friends bikes have had the xtra gears put in. A progressive spring in the rear makes it magic. That leaves the front to fiddle with.

The ultimate woods machine in my opinion is an FC 450 with the 380 kit installed w/6sp. Use the cam from an 00 400 EXC and you will kill anything in the trees. I used this set up on my last fe 380, and it carried my 240 lb carcass around at 'A' speed, with a big smile on my face.

Enjoy the FC.
