Hi All,

Recently bought my first berg (04 fs 650), first impressions love it, but it's got a nice set of blue excel rims on and the chain has decided to mark the rim! Currently looking for a decent chain block, but I'm after a colour code or something to get some touch up paint for the rim, anyone know a source??

If no one here has already been down this road before and has matched something close you could take the bike to an automotive paint store and have them match it. Larger stores will have a spectrophotometer that will get you in the ball park fast. If you can get a waterbase basecoat (as opposed to a solvent base) it will adhere pretty good to a clean surface and dries flat so that the hand touch up dabs blend in better.
 
As an Auto Painter I can tell you how I would do it. I do have the convenience of color matching the rim myself with PPG Omni Mtx
I imagine the rim is gloss or somewhat close. If not full gloss I do have a flattening agent to add in ratio.
In your case your best bet as mentioned is to take it to an auto supply store and have it color matched. They will probably not want to sell you less than a pint but maybe you can get a special offer. The problem with applying only basecoat is that it is very thin, flat and less durable.. It is designed for another stage which is clearcoat .
I would spray it with the single stage gloss paint and slightly flattened if need be. The Omni mtx I have for example is a 4:1:2 mix. Paint, hardener, reducer.
So this should be considered as part of cost as most paints have mixing requirements. Even basecoat is mixed up to 100% with reducer.
But if you want to just get paint and brush it on that's up to you.
I would apply 2 coats. The way I would do it as I imagine the rim is marred all the way around at the edge would be to back tape the lip off by applying a feather edged tape to prevent a hard edge being formed and spray the entire outer lip. With just 2 coats after pulling the tape very little to no mark would be seen.

And yes, the outer lip to be sprayed should be sanded with no less than 400 grit wet sandpaper. 320 dry is also ok.
Even a thorough red scotch brite will do. But do use wax and grease remover before painting
On the edge you are taping a light gray scotch brite scuff.
The upper middle chain guard is available from Taffy. I just got one.
For the lower I use a BRP chain guide.
I also use a 1.5mm Ktm sprocket spacer.

I actually did that to some black Dna wheels that paint got scuffed off from the chain guard.

Especially if its going to keep getting that way and you don't care a whole lot.

But if he wants his pretty blue anodized wheels looking great, there is another way..

And he did say chain hitting the wheel right? That could be ugly...:((

I will admit. Its much easier for me to make the wheel original looking again because I can tint a mere ounce or 2 , and have the wheel prepped and painted in a very short time.
I once made some original Husaberg frame blue for some touch up.
I have thought about making some to sell to some one wanting to paint the original color.
I can make the perfect guaranteed match.
Problem is.. I dont have a blue frame to match anymore. Just black frames...
 
Thanks for all the replys! The damage to the wheel isn't too bad but it's marked so will try a marker on it, if no joy I will take it automotive paint guy and get it matched, next thing is a chain roller of sorts :(
 
I might know this bike!

it may have an extra wide rim in it and this is the root cause of your problem? or it happened when someone first fitted the wheel one day and it hass never happened again.

I was trying to find touchup as well for my D.I.D rims in factory car colors but non seemed very appropriate. Anodized rims are hard to touch up and look good because they react so different in certain lights. I found and grabbed Duplicolor Metalcast in the blue color.

Its specifically an anodized look paint. I spray it in a jar, let it sit and evaporate a bit then brush on. Multiple coats required as it is pretty transparent. I think the color match is pretty good and I'm picky.
 
Anodize does have a special look but the main thing is getting a color to match for touch up.
If you can find a spray can to match the shade that good then all to you.
