Hi all!

How do the environmentalists have an opinion about riding the bike in the nature at you?
Are routes assigned for you?
:-k

In Michigan, the routes on public owned land are very well defined and marked. The citizens of the state maintain the trails in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which includes grooming, grading etc... The ORV system makes quite a bit of $$$ for the state, which helps keep the trails open, and the enviros at bay.

In California, an area rich with good weather, deserts, mountains, woods, open range all sorts of places to ride but a State which is home to the environmental world leadership.........we have steadily lost riding areas each year for the past 40 years. We are now left with only a few OHV parks and a very few miles of woods trails and designated desert areas left we are allowed to ride on. Most places are extremely over crowded and dangerous to ride because of the crowded trails. It is not a good situation becoming worse by the increasing numbers of quads. BUT, it's still California and we still ride every weekend, year round.

That sux... We are currently sporting ~3000miles of valid trail. The Cycle Conservation Club (CCC) and DNR are, by law, supposed to add new motorcycle trail this year. 'Course, we only get to ride 8 months out of the year. Our saving grace is the CCC. The organization is now 40 years old and has battled the state to keep things open. We are now moving to allow ORV (unlicensed) access to certain roads that connect loops. :)

I asked because we started negotiating with the environmentalists on Hungary, and we assign routes.
We started it now not so for a long time, I would have been curious about how you do this.

So.. there is a problem somewhere..

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no negotiating with the enviro's!!!!!!! IT is nothing more than a steady chipping away at your riding area's, they say they want to make a "compromise" with you, but, the ink won't be dry on the agreement and they will be asking for something else. Mark my words, I've seen this happening over and over again. I also live in California, and have seen over the last 20 some years a loss of approx 50% of our riding area's, and they are still after more land to designate wilderness. It is a constant fight with these people, they are NEVER satisfied. Even in the face of the scientific reports that do not support their hypothesis, that they themselves insisted on, and were a part of, they do not accept and file one law suit after another.

My advise to you OTO is to put up a strong defense right now, do not wait, do not let them get any momentum whatsoever, do not give up one single riding area with out a fight, set the precedence early!

I agree with DaleEO. Around here between development and the tree huggers about all the local riding areas are closed. Now I have to drive a great distance to ride ( for me ). I read over Jason`s way that they are wanting to close Tellico. I think they are going about this the wrong way but around here you can`t get any riders to stick together for things like that and then all they do is sit and gripe when its to late and it is all over but the crying. I think it is nothing but complete B.S., nothing but land grabbers.

The other problem with the enviros is that they misrepresent people who trust them thinking they will act in the interest of the community and of nature at large, when in fact they often take on the easy target such as us, and usually do not act against the real polluters, such as the golf courses and big industrial groups, because they know that politicians (lots of them golfers) and the lobbyists would have a field day with them.

We are an easy target because there is only a tiny number of us and a large number of people who do not understand what we do and easily think that we ride in every direction, destroy everything and do major damage when most of us are sensible and tread lightly.

Which is why you need to communicate with the public and police yourself, make sure you all ride make your bike silent and stay on the trails.

If one day they are done with us, they will take on other targets, as they are already doing with the BMX riders in some areas, and even casual hikers, kayakers, and let's not even talk about the hunters. Some of them might be smart enough to understand that we're a convenient target and that they should just let us be, or else if we disappear, they'll have to fight less convenient targets.

This comes from a guy who believes in global warming, in recycling to a certain level and in reducing pollution but who hates the greenies, the enviros and all those pretend nature lovers.

come visit us in SA, we have loads of awesome areas, especially on the east coast; and it won't cost you that much with the currency conversion.

that being said we have also lost some riding areas lately to the tree huggers, and also because of a small bunch of irresponsible dirtbikers that mess it up for the rest of us.

Unfortunately, this is reality in society today. All around the world. Society's way of thinking can't be changed, you just have to wait for the tide to change.
Once someone tries to take something from you, you basically have two options; fight for what you want or watch it go away.
