Hi everybody :)

My crankshaft and rod have made a mess in my engine leaving chips in my bearings. Anyone now a site to buy all the bearings to my engine without getting ruined?

NOsense

all the bearings except the mains, counterbalancer and cam followers are best sourced from a local bearing shop, the bearing codes and sizes are in the parts listing in "service manuals"

DCR in the UK sells the counterbalancer bearing

Munn racing or any of the ktmtalk engine builders can always help with genuine parts

the most economic and the best main bearings by far are the NTN roller mains

brand: NTN NJ206 ET2XCS46 this available through KTM, part Number 50330082000

only positive attribute of the OEM berg SKF bearings .. they cost more = more mark up for the seller.

we rebuild Husabergs for our living and the OEM parts are very good, the NTNs aren't better by far. sadly the factory made a mistake building the engines back in the day (2004-2005) and the bearings got the blame.

Orangeberg also made his living from building husabergs as an official dealer and prefers the NTN's.

Taffmeisters firm opinion and lack of comparative experience with the NTN bearings is well documented and again is duly noted.

I have comprehensively tested NTN VS SKF in a high load situation with repeated close examination, the NTN still looks nearly brand new at 120hrs +

use whatever bearings you like .. NTNs are cheaper so why bother with skfs is my opinion.

these are some of the bearings I have tested

OEM SKF, Rollway C4 in 20mm wide, SKF C4 in 20mm wide, rollway emaC4 16mm wide and one of orangebergs NTNs

ign side SKF bearing, 0.75mm axial play, 0.05mm radial play, 105mm piston 28 hrs

Ign side NTN bearing 0.75mm axial play 0.04mm radial play, 105mm piston 50 hours

it looked the same at 120 hours, it even endured the debris from a rod big end failure

Rollway EMA C4 drive side bearing used with both the above bearings 150 + hrs

none have failed and all are good enough but it is clear to me which one is handling the situation with the least stress.

this is a sketch I did years ago to explain the difference

the surface speed at the contact point of the SKF roller with the inner race lip is higher than the other bearings because of its sharper roller radius, the axial load is also more concentrated.

I really don't care which bearings people use.. I just find this stuff extremely intriguing

When you say main bearings you mean crankshaft bearings right?

Ketil

yes I mean the 2 Nj206 bearings, there is one on either side of the crank

they are 30 ID 62 OD and 16mm wide.

and I should og for the NTNbearings. They are better right?
and the same with the side rollers?

You dont have a part manual for the 2008 model? I dont know which part number I should order :-/
And I'm thinking of inserting a 2008 crankshaft :)

Thanks :)

I'm not sure what I meant abot side rollers myself?? I've read Your tread about bearings and you said something about the crankshaft expanding under load and and the force on the bearings went outwards?? :D.

Bear With me. I'm New at this, but eager to learn :)

ah i see

yes NTN "side rollers" ... they are part of the main bearings

don't worry everything will make sense when you have the engine in tiny pieces

What parts should i upgrade on my husaberg 650 -01 mod?

Hi Bushmecanic,

What parts of my -01 model is the week link and should be replaced/upgraded?

Do I have to cahnge the complet crankshaft when the rod is default?

Thanks for answers?

Ketik

the same mains will fit in your engine

NTN NJ206 ET2XCS46 this available through KTM, part Number 50330082000

some weak points, there will be others someone else can add.

cam follower bearings (replace)

cam chain tensioning slider (upgrade)

kickstart shaft (upgrade)

valve springs change to duals http://husaberg.org/mechanical/10680-all-about-valve-springs-nice-pics.html

counterbalancer bearings .. IMHO remove the whole thing

you can buy aftermarket but they might not fit http://husaberg.org/husaberg/17409-mechanical-whining-noise.html

you can get an oem rod kit and you can have the crank rebuilt providing the crank has not been rebuilt too many times

the only real way to decide what needs doing is to take it apart and inspect everything

have fun!

a lot for all the help. This is my first Husaberg and it's very strong, but I understand that the rod is a problem on this bike. I've ordered the main bearings as you suggested. Do you have a ntn partnumber for the rod bearings as well?

And partnr. for the other thing you suggested to replace/Upgrade?

Do you really mean I can just remove the balancer from the crankshaft?

Thanks again,
Ketil :)

but it's the rod bearings which break all the time. There must be better bearings that the oem's out there? or can i use bearings/and or a Complete rod kit from a newer model?

I want my engine to have more durability and avoid the rod turning crasy whenever it feels liket it. The main crankshaft bearings doesnt influent my rod bearings, do they?

My rod looks okay and the crankshaft can be readjusted because it hassen been done before.

I know I can Upgrade to a 2008 crankshaft Complete With rod. but then I have to buy a New piston as well, and it cost some money :(

HI nosense

I would just change to the 08 crank if you are looking for longer big end life

but please remember our friend Zaga has indicated in another thread that the taper of the SEM ignition flywheel is different to the taper you will find on the 08 crank

the 08 crank goes with the kokusan ignition and the kokusan ignition components do not fit in your cases

I will be fitting (lots of machining) a kokusan ignition and an 08 crank to my 02 cases soon .. will post pics.
