Hey there guys,
just putting together my 04 550 engine and am finding netural between 3 and 4 gear. Cant understand or find out in the workshop manual which way the shift drum should sit or which way the positioning star should sit on the shift drum.
I can see a pin punch mark on the face of the shifting drum which is facing directly toward the gear selector shaft, does anyone know how the positioning star should sit with regard to the mark, as I beleive this is why I cant get netural between 1st and 2nd gear at the moment.
First time on engine assembley duties.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

g'day

you want the neutral hollow to be where the punchmark is. don't do anything after you've fitted it how you think it should be but test it. and do it with the engine sat upright. use a socket on the centre screw to change gear and check it out.

regards

Taffy

Thanks Taffy,
I was in a panic thinking the shift drum was not right. It was just the positioning star that needed to be rotated 180 degrees and it all worked then.I actually found the small peice of paper all covered in oil and muck with a diagram on it that I had drawn prior to pulling it apart so I new which way to assemble it again, just after typing the post!

Cheers,.
