Nick,
What did you think of the 2010 range compared to the 2009??
The 010 models handled very well indeed, especially considering they were stock and my fe570 has been resprung and revalved.
I am not sure how much difference the 22mm clamps make as the 010 fe 570 got smashed up early on and was unrideable. This meant i could not do a like for like comparison with my 09 570.
So, i ended up doing a few laps on my 09 570 which has rekluse , damper and set on soft map (normally on aggressive), then a few laps on the 010 fe450, then a few laps on the fe 390.
The course was half woods , half open, sandy soil with small tight berms in the woods, quite a few polished roots, open straights on grass, soil rutted looped sections, a couple of bogs, hill climbs and whoop sections.
Into the woods on the fe450 and it was more agile than my 570 on this section of the course, holding a tighter line around trees and into berms, it had good stability, less of a battle therefore faster timewise.
Still in the woods , the fe390 was faster still and the most 2 strokish of the three bikes having razor sharp handling and flickabilty. It did seem to have a more flighty front end, tried to climb out of berms a couple of times. Maybe because ti wants to go faster and requires less respect than the 450/570 to get the job done.
Out in the open on the straight (not a long one) all the bikes felt as fast as each other. yes, im sure you would need a longish straight for the 570 to get any advantage over the 390 !
Traction on all three bikes was the same, they all kicked out on the worst roots in the same manner and none lost traction in any area.
Verdict: All three bikes are great and do everything well.
I would need to do a full 4 hour race on the 390 to be conclusive, but if you are out to win cups in H&H, enduro races then the 390 certainly has more than enough grunt to tackle anything in its path.
I still love my 570. Honest!
