Ok tech heads, here's one for you.
I've just purchased a rekluse clutch and want to convert my clutch master cylinder to a back brake, which is straightforward if you junk the standard rear brake.....However I want to have both footbrake and handbrake 8O ...Any ideas on how to do this???
My 1st thought was a longer dual banjo bolt with both lines to the caliper but I have been told this will not work due to fluid being forced back into the opposing master cylinder....
Any and all input welcome 8)

Gix I think you can do the brake mod like what you said.I read on a different site (streetbikes) where a person did basically what you want to do.Might have to mount a brake modulator in line to prevent the fluid backup in the other master cylinder. What you are talking about is a linked braking system witch a lot of streetbikes have.Check some of the shops that has bikes with a linked braking systems. The cost might be more than you want but it is worth checking into.Worth a try and good luck.

For what it may be worth:
Our CRF 450 Daytona Shorttrack entry will be featuring a Rekluse clutch.
My intention is to have a common foot / hand actuated rear brake. I am working on such and will be happy to share the details once I have proven it work.

Thanks for the input guys, Dale, I look forward to hearing how it goes :)

I have seen this done with a standard cable type clutch leaver linked to the rear pedal at an appropriate point of leverage so that pulling the leaver pulled the rear pedal down. Its primitive but it is cheap and easy to do if you were looking to experiment with it before you commit to expensive hardware/modifications. You use the back break a lot in sidecar to slide the bike into the corners.

Thats actually a very simple solution, thanks Ben. i suppose its about as crude as you make it really...you could make it look quite trick.
I was initially toying with the idea of a secondary caliper from a mtb..either hydraulic or cable but your suggestion sounds fairly simple..just like me :) , must be why I like it

It has occurred to me that one could use a hydraulic conversion clutch kit like those available for the Jap bikes in place of the cable. If you want it to have the same look and feel as a hydraulic unit. I have never seen it done this way, but I have seen it work with a cable so I see no reason why it wont work with a hydraulic unit. If you can get just the slave from one of those clutch conversions then you could even use your original Husaberg master.

As you can probably tell my mind keeps me awake at night thinking about bikes, sad isn't it.

Rekluse (208 426 0659) makes a kit that consists of a hydraulic clutch master cylinder with the lever, hydraulic hose, and an adapter that replaces your existing rear brake reservoir. Foot brake still operates as before only returning release fluid to the hand master cylinder. Hand cylinder must be pressurizing the rear brake through the hole that connected the original foot reservoir to its piston. $289 Feb 2005 Dirt Bike has a test on the system.
