Has anyone dropped there berg in a river, only iv'e just been trail riding and refused to ride it through the river crossings after watching one of my friends drown out his 2 stroke wr and struggle to get it started, it took quite a while, my thoughts being if i flattened the battery i'd be stranded, what's the procedure for getting these bikes running again, because of the fuel injection system,i'm clueless :?

Don't really know cos I haven't got an FI bike and don't know anyone who's done it but theoretically it should be easier than a carb machine.
It doesn't have a fuel bowl to fill up with water and small fuel galleries like a carb and the FI would squirt fuel in straight away.
Obviously still have to take out plug and drain it out, dry filter, check for water in oil etc etc.

Just my 2c.
Someone can tell me to pull my head in if I'm totally wrong.

I've had a few good dunks and no problems. I will re-run the carb breather tubes higher at some point. I saw that here.

Hi, yep did it on the weekend biggest issue was water got up in the airbox and kept dribbling down into the carb boot and pooling just in front of the carb bell mouth after we thought we dried it out, get one of those motion pro carb spanners for the float bowl they work well, still we rode on and after a few stops and she came right .........colin

all good advice except he's got one of the new fi bikes with no carb boot or float bowl

Yes i'm glad someone's paying attention, here goes, what happens if i drop it in a river how do i dry it out with out flatening the battery, because those of us with the new bergs know there's no kickstart, intelligent replys only please!!! :?

I have a Rekulse , so I can not even bump start mine if dropped . I would also love to know " what happens " I went to Renfro Valley last year ,on my old KTM and 30 bikes went UNDER water . So I did NOT cross the river , I pushed mine across  . but I did finish the ride

I've only drowned a few bikes, couple of smokers and a thumper. Simple enough to get them lit again, as long as there's no engine damage (bent rod or valves - water doesn't take well to being compressed).

What I would do if I drowned my FE...

- pull air filter, and dab dry if possible

- pull sparkplug, stand bike up on the rear wheel to drain any water from exhaust, then touch the starter to pump any water out of case/cyclinder

- stand bike upright on two wheels, touch starter off again to void water that may have been under the piston

- ensure spark at plug, then reisinstall

- attempt to start

Although, with the 70° cant of the engine, perhaps first tilting the bike up on its front wheel would be more prudent?

Hi all, first post here. Just got my first Berg ('10 FE450) which should be in my possession in three weeks and just reading some typical concerns about FI ie fuel pump issues, electronics... drowning. So, sorry for resurrecting the thread but wondering if there are any first hand experiences yet of starting the FI Bergs after drowning? Search only brought up this thread.

Leaving the blue Yamaha camp coming to the 'other' blue camp. :) Looking forward to the change.

This was me:

Plug out; spin it over to remove water; new plug and the job's a good 'un.

Flushed the oil when I got home.

Now that is a first hand review that should dispel any concerns anyone might have about the FI in deep water.

Thanks for the post. Appreciated. And I'm not going to question what posessed you to cross that river. 8O

Cheers,

It's a public road (seriously! See 'Standon' here: http://www.wetroads.co.uk/hertfordshire.htm).

I've ridden it many times including about 10 days before the video. Unfortunately the water was about 2" higher on this occassion!

:(
