My FS650E is dripping oil onto the ground. I havent had a chance to run it all that much, but it is dripping near the left because it is on the kick stand.

I also notice some oil on the bottom of the Carb Bowl.

Last time this happened to me it turned out to be some excess air filter oil migrating down the frame tubes, onto the pivot of the kickstand, these days after i clean and oil the filter, i put a piece of rag between the end of the foam filter and the shock top bolt, just to wick up any excess.

have a look at the kickstart seal/'O' ring. also the gearbox seal can go as well.

Taffy

So The leak doesnt look as bad as it is in that picture because the bike has not seen dirt.

Doesnt look like a kick start seal as no oil around that area.

The drain bolt or filter bolt (the left one on the rightside case) had some oil around it looking like it was almost going to drip so I cleaned that off and tried to give it a small turn.

I was trying to follow the sealant on the bottom of the case and it appear it could possible be missing some on the middle seam for about .5 of an inch, but that is not to say some sealent is not inside.

Ill keep ya posted.

it'd be nice if you put the model and year in yer signature.
if its a pre '03 without the extra cover bolt, it could be a warped cover. leaks above and behind the k/s shaft.

New problem.

The right signals dont work good.

Left work great.

Front right is very dimm, the rear is not on. It was working last week but did something funny where it stayed on instead of blinking, played around with the switches after restarting the bike and they worked again

Also the indicator light goes dimm when I use the right signal or doesnt look bright.

Where is the ground on this thing? Or what do I need to do?

This sucks as I want to safty this thing tomorrow.

Fix the light problem.

Was bad ground and solder.

NEW PROBLEM! PHUCK!

I go to get the bike saftied, and they are humming and hawin. I dont think the bike is street legal.

Basically it didnt have the top chainguard that goes on top of the swingarm and they wont safty it.

I dont have this. Is this the same part that goes on a KTM 625smc?

Surely there must be a dozen guys on here that have the chain guard that dont use them? I have one that I'll never use, but it would probably cost more than its worth to post it.

Where are you located?

Azza.

awilksch I will take it got road transport check done they wanted me to have a chain guard i will pay postage across from the island or do u ever come to Adelaide? Thanks Glenn

Hi Glenn,

I am coming over tho adelaide for Crusty Demons in June, however I am happy to post it if you want, I have a fair bit of ADR stuff, incl mirrors, and tail light extenders.

PM me if you want to discuss it further.

Azza.

I put a brand new set of retreads on my 06 FE550 when I sold it to a bloke in VIC & he had to get a new set of rubber cause it said on the sidewall "not for highway use". When I spoke to the manufacturer in WA he said it's only on there for tyres that get imported into the USA. Just shows you these nobs dont know $hit when it comes to roadworthy's on bikes. If your tyres say that grind it off before you put it over the pits & they'll never pick it up. Make sure you put down "single seater" when you do go over the pits & it'll save you coin. Just dont dink anyone or you'll wind up in the slammer.

So it looked like the drain bolt was loose, because the oil was bubble around the bolt. I turned it ran the bike a bit no more leak so far.

Changed the oil, filled the filter area half way, put in the stainless jobby.

Tried to watch the glass as I filled the oil seem to take alot and then all of a sudden it came up almost half way on the glass.

Then it went down a bit on the glass, and I ran it down some more I think.

How much oil exactly do these things need, I though it was 1 litre something is telling me it needs either less or more.

The oil should be level with the BOTTOM of the sight glass, I now make sure mine is a touch more but not much. Remember to check with the bike upright and not on the sidestand lol. It can be tricky but run it for a minute max after oil change, check and top up if necessary, then go for a 5 minute ride nice and gentle. Then park up on the flat turn off and leave bike for 5 mins. Re-check, top up if needed then RIDE

Oh and mate, buy a couple of drain plug sealing washers, they dont last forever and it may be bubbling because it has deformed from years of use. Overtightening is a bad thing to do so try and torque it up also. hope this helps
