Does the newer style clutch fit on older engine?

I'm wondering if there's a way to fit the newer (2004 and up) clutch basket and plates onto the older (2002 FE501) engine. The reason I ask is because I want to put a Rekluse Pro on my bike, but they only make it for the 2004+ bikes.

MMMMMM, seems to me that Taffy has one on his 02, shoot him a pm and ask him. I think there was a change somewhere around 02 or 03 as well with the basket ring gear or the primary nut or something like that.

Wasnt the 03 basket held on with a c clip?
and 04 to present a nut?

pre and early 03 clutches (without the dowel pin/ guides) are indeed held on by circlip. it's possible that the clip groove is at the proper position to secure the inner basket. but why would you go to all that trouble? what is so much better in the pro kit over the standard kit that it would be of any advantage in this application?
