I need to change all the bottom end bairings on my fe400 big end, little end and main crank bairings, is it possible to do this myself? I have access to a press, but not much more bike related equipment. Is balancing essential? I'm doing the bearings then selling it, I've had enough of it now. Totally lost interest in the bike :( shame because I loved it :(

Hello Bobber

anything is possible but I'm a skilled up mechanic and I don't do it.

the mains you can do but the big end can only be done by a skilled engineer.

the little end is the half way one. I can replace the little end but it is easy to put it in on the squwif and also to leave a burr on the end that you pushed from etc.

it is about 70 quid to let an engineer do your crank and little end bush.

even my local engineers can't get it 'right' I have to go to a veteran of 40 years and I can't even see the dial guages moving. he's not mustard - he's vindaloo phal!

the FE400e is a brilliant bike, however, so few people care for them properly that it is a crime?

That's what I thought, I guess it looks like I'll just have to pay for someone else to do it, I'm a car mechanic by trade so I hate not being able to do something myself. In the short time I've owned it I've maintained it well and the guy I got it off genuinely seemed to care for it, only ever using motul oils etc, still even had the original hand written receipt from when he bought it. I think it's got about 100 hours on the clock. But after the camshaft bairings collapsing, valve spring snapping and now the knocking, I really can't be arsed with it anymore. Thanks for the info :)

Best to press it together about 1/3 of the way, true press another 1/3 check
and true again...
