Hello guys, any input on the difference from the 550 to the 650. i have put a few miles on a buddys 04 650 and i like it very much. i hear that the 550 has more punch and will accelerate harder than the 650??? seems strange to me. i have been holding out on the 2t's still, so the Berg will be my first 4t. i cant seem to find much info on the 650's and how they compair to the smaller bikes.
thanks guys
scott

550 Question

The 550 will accelerate harder than a 650 for sure up to say 75mph.
The 550 will handle better in the tight stuff and it is less energy consuming by a long shot if you ask me?
The 550 is the do all bike and I mean do all1
My bike is used for moto, desert, gps, and enduros and it is awesome in all except enduros.
The reason for that is that my bike is a Fc with more snap than a FE and that is no real help in enduros with 55hp.
I have owned two 525s and like this bike more for everything.
My friend has the 06 650 and it is best kept in the open desert.

RE: 550 Question

How's the FC and FE tune differ?? i allways wanted the FC but i have not seen any at the offical berg page in a long time. what gives?? any plans for a retrun of the FC to the US and are the FC's still in euro??? how does the 550 feel compaired to a jap 450?? i have seen one 550 out in my area and hope to ride it next time i see it. would like to get a back to back ride on a 550 to a 650. also i hear that the older 650's were a true 650 and the new bikes are 630's, any info on that and how the 2 "650's" differ??
thanks

FC 550

The FC 550 takes about 35 feet to catch up to a new 450 on a Moto start and will pull a big rider at about the same pace to the first turn.(starts catching up fast) It might be a little faster with the same size riders on a fast start but not sure? I go about 215 with no gear, so the other guys are about 30lbs lighter and that does make a difference. Once under way on a long uphill or straight the 550 has the edge. If you come out of a turn that has a short distance to a big jump the 550 has the advantage as well because you just use the tourq. The 650 is a desert bike like the Honda 650 except about 40 lbs lighter and slower reving for sure. It will not do as well as the 550 in other forms of racing.
In the Desert the 650 might get the nod but not by very much if at all?
Good Luck!

There are no FC models built after 2005.Lighter crankshaft, ignition and exhaust differs from the FE as far as I know. With an open silencer the FE should make the same numbers if you dynoed it,but the FC is a bit more responsive with a "snappier" feel. The only jap 450 i´ve ridden is the CRF and the RMZ,and compared to my 550 it feels like they are in the same hp range but with less low end grunt.

RE: Re: RE: 550 Question

If you are serious about an FC 550, Dixie still has new crated 05s, so ask a keen dealer what kind of deal he can get for you.

RE: Re: RE: 550 Question

Does Dixie live in the United States? How many 05 FC 550's does he have left? How much is he asking for them??

fry has answered your question before you put it!!!!!

FSF - the 550 may have had a 41mm carb as well. the differences between the two FC/FE are minimal, it's more of a weight issue. your comparison of a 450 and the berg however is spot on. not so sure about the flywheel either....

scotty - ask velosapiens with a PM. he runs a katoom 300, rides AZ and UT etc and bought a 650. loves it. he's the fella to ask.

as for 20cc difference, can you feel it? or are you bragging again!!!!

regards

Taffy
